We are a well-established construction company based in Kitchener, Ontario, specializing in residential and commercial projects. We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Accounting Manager to join our team and oversee all financial operations within the company.


As the Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating all accounting activities for our construction company. You will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to the management team. This is a leadership position that requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles specific to the construction industry.


Responsibilities


Financial Management:


  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and company standards.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, reports, and forecasts to the management team, highlighting key financial indicators and trends.


Construction Project Accounting


  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to develop accurate project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Review and approve project-related invoices, change orders, and progress billings.
  • Monitor project financial performance, track costs, and analyze project variances.


Team Leadership


  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as operations and procurement, to ensure seamless integration of financial processes.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations.


Compliance And Audit


  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and government requirements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, accounting principles, and changes in regulations that may impact the company's financial operations.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies during audits and reviews.


Qualifications


  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.

Requirements


  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards
  • Possess strong organizational and follow-up skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of bi-Monthly Payroll
  • Accounts Payable (AP) experience required
  • Be detailed, flexible, and organized
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and vendor management skills
  • Significant accounting experience, including as a Bookkeeper preferred
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business-related field preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
