STANDARDS AND QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER
Description of Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the manager will include maintaining and ensuring compliance with the Firm’s System of Quality Management documentation together with the Firm’s Standards Group. Specific duties include participating in the Firm’s annual monitoring, leading role in annual file inspections, identifying and addressing any non-compliance issues, and making specific and overall recommendations to improve quality.
The Manager is expected to be fully conversant with the CPA Ontario Code of Professional Conduct and advise and assist the Firm on client acceptance and independence matters on an as needed basis.
The Manager is expected to participate in engagement team meetings and / or to act in the role as an Engagement Manager on selected client files (initially or for a period of 6-12 months).
The Firm also participates and contributes to the Toronto Area Inter-Firm discussions where several Firms meet to discuss current topics impacting ASPE / ASNPO and assurance pronouncements, and other practice matters. The Manager is expected to participate in these Inter-Firm meetings.
Other responsibilities include:
Scheduling and coordinating the Firms Standards Group meetings including working with the Group’s members to set the agenda.
Scheduling and coordinating Professional Development Committee meetings focusing on specific areas requiring improvement to improve quality, coordinating with external PD providers, establishing annual training requirements, leading internal in-house or online training, and maintaining PD attendance records for compliance purposes.
Coordinating with the external provider for the Firm’s CaseWare Keystone templates.
Coordinating with CPA Ontario and our International affiliate for Practice inspections.
Keeping the Firm up to date in Assurance and Accounting through internal communication and updating the Firm’s templates and guidance.
Assisting with engagement quality reviews.
Standards review of Financial Statements.
Advising and assisting Engagement Teams and others in the Firm, on accounting and assurance matters, as and when required.
Assisting in the development of tools, checklists, letters, and other guidance to address new standards not included in CPA Canada’s PEG.
