Gis Data Technician Jobs

Minimum education requirement: College diploma in a related field

• Training in the areas of forest operations, forest management, mobile mapping applications

Manage and edit GIS data in a variety of programs (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc)

Applicant meets the eligibility requirements for the NOHFC Workforce Development Stream

Experience working with GIS and related software

Bush-road driving skills considered in asset

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently or within project teams of various sizes

Minimum one year with ArcGIS experience and hands-on experience with geospatial analysis and applied GIS-based tools

Interpret and map human footprint from satellite imagery and GIS layers

Ability to investigate and apply emerging GIS-based approaches to improve the work quality and solutions

Coordinate and undertake quality assurance and quality control on work prior to passing it on as required

Summarize and export GIS information as required for analyses and distributing output information

Certification in data, process or business analysis, project management, or a related field is an asset.

Apply knowledge of NorQuest programs to understand what data is inaccurate or requires investigation for corrections.

Regularly run corrective audits to maintain correct information in preparation for yearly LERS reporting to Advanced Education.

3+ years experience in a related role in a post-secondary environment.

A combination of eduction and directly related experience may be considered.

Experience using a student information system (PeopleSoft preferred).

Experience with cloud infrastructure and management, including Microsoft platforms such as One Drive and SharePoint.

Experience with imagery and image processing either in ArcGIS Pro, ENVI or another software environment. Knowledge of LiDAR is an asset.

Experience and skills in other relevant GIS and 3D software (acQuire, ioGAS, Leapfrog, Oasis Montaj, GoCAD, Krux, Imago, MX Deposit,Safety Culture).

Bachelor in Earth Sciences or Geoscience discipline and/or specialized certification in GIS. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.

Strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within numerous diverse teams.

Able to work with minimal supervision; results oriented with excellent organizational, planning, prioritization, problem solving and execution skills.

This position reports directly to the Manager of Engineering and key responsibilities include:

Assists in the design of individual supply circuits for service installations and line changes to accommodate service requirements.

Knowledge of ArcMap GIS and ESRI Products.

Must have proven proficiency or knowledge of the Windows Operating system in a networked environment, file management and data conversion;

Knowledge of demonstrable GIS concepts and some GIS programming will both be considered an asset;

The GIS CAD Technician will also be expected to:

Experience managing large-scale datasets (GIS, database management).

Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS), including executing

Experience writing SQL scripts for database management and data extraction.

Manage and maintain system files and data to the required standards.

Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology, GIS Technology, or equivalent related courses and experience, from a recognized technical institute.

Knowledge of industry standards and procedures.

Familiarity with the project process and the ability to effectively manage information from various sources.

Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills along with the ability to express thoughts clearly both verbally and in writing.

Update data in GIS on as-built documents, engineering drawings and information submitted by various internal and external groups.

Support the finance, business development and marketing teams in portfolio tracking and marketing

Experience in GIS Analyst and/or Geoscience Technologist roles

Strong Microsoft office and advanced Excel skills

Experience with some or all of PostgreSQL, LucidLink, Prism (Enverus) AWS, SKUA GOCAD, Geolog, SeisEarth, EPOS, GeoGraphix, QGIS, ARCGIS

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse personalities, functional backgrounds, and senior level staff

Be able to work both in person and remote

Knowledge with GIS database management systems (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle) is a plus

Design and maintain spatial data layers, including data acquisition, processing, metadata management and quality control for delivery

Minimum of 2+ years of experience in GIS data analysis

Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI

Experience with web mapping technologies (e.g. Leaflet, OpenLayers) is a plus

Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. FME, Python, R) is a plus

Coordinate with team members to ensure data management and spatial analysis needs are being met to support project implementation

Manage, update, and query existing geospatial databases

Strong English written and oral communication skills.

Identify existing databases of barriers to fish movement in Canada, including dams, culverts, and barriers to lateral connectivity

Acquire, compile, and aggregate aquatic barrier data from multiple sources and a variety of formats into a standardized data structure

Perform QA/QC of barrier datasets to ensure consistency and quality of data, and to remove duplicate data points
