Job Description
Preference will be given to qualified employees, as defined in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement. Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered.
The position reports to the Director, Teaching and Learning Innovation and is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining digital applications, tools, and systems that support the teaching and learning ecosystem at Sheridan.
The incumbent will demonstrate a project and service culture, maintaining relationships as a liaison between SPARK and other Sheridan departments in alignment with SPARK’s priorities and vision. The incumbent will work closely with the LMS system administrator and developers as well as the LMS support and training team.
The incumbent is responsible for application development, web development, web graphics, system integrations, and technical support. The incumbent will work to design and develop custom applications, configure new applications, modify existing applications, design prototype applications, test source code, troubleshoot application issues.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Create visualization for the data that allows for easy consumption of data stories.
  • Design, develop and maintain applications that support the teaching and learning resource hub and SPARK’s digital presence to ensure optimal user experience.
  • Collaborate with the system administrator to build data models.
  • Consult with program teams on creation of digital assets.
  • Make recommendation on the features and functionality of support system, SPARK’s digital presence and resource hub.
  • Liaise with the SPARK team to ensure the resource hub are updated and current.
  • Design, develop and maintain a data hub and respond to data request from departments and faculty.
  • Conducting technical feasibility study for the selection of new software and or the extension of existing software.
  • Provides support for the testing of systems/applications when there are updates/new feature release.
  • Responsible for the administration of secondary learning system and integrations including user access and privilege.
  • Act as the lead front end designer, supporting applications and systems including branding.
  • Extract, collect, store and visual raw data for use by department and program teams.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Lead the design and development of assets to promote digital pedagogy.
About You
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.
You bring Working knowledge of system design and implementation and process mapping tools such as Unified Modeling Languages.
You are an analytical thinker and have a knack for thinking critically about how processes flow and how to build systems.
You enjoy balancing many different tasks and can prioritize multiple projects while staying organized and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of user experience design principles.
  • Working knowledge of modern web stack
  • Visualization of data using programming language such as python.
  • 3-year diploma/degree or equivalent in Information systems, Web Programming, Web Development. Minimum of 3 years of experience with Web Design/Development, Information Systems, or a related field of study with strong working experience in web application design and development, data analytic and system administration.
  • Creating professional web interface and web application.
  • Experience must include:
  • Creating application using cloud development environment
  • Administration of larger learning system including managing user privilege and access.
  • Creating data model for learning system
  • Interacting with technical and non-technical persons within teaching and learning environment
