As the Underwriting Specialist, you are responsible for assisting the Underwriting Pillar within the Customer Engagement Team. You will work with the Underwriting Pillar to mitigate loss and enhance the quality of our book of business from fraud and other underwriting concerns. You will be working collaboratively with our service agents and providing value added expertise of property and casualty underwriting best practices.
Key Accountabilities:
KA 1 Operate as an Underwriting Specialist and work collaboratively with agents in the Underwriting Pillar where they will be responsible for qualifying and underwriting property and auto policies.
KA 2 Build knowledge of all fraud prevention systems within the Underwriting Pillar and Customer Engagement Team.
KA 3 Maintain the quality and controls of the portfolio.
KA 4 Initiate and respond to Underwriting communication from Onlia's customer base within the established guidelines.
KA 5 Execute training needs, guideline improvement, and auditing when.
KA 6 Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies, applying remediation strategies as appropriate.
KA 7 Keep up to date on industry news and the provincial Insurance Acts.
KA 8 Support maintenance of a compliant Underwriting environment in relation to
Onlia’s guidelines and rules
KA 9 Work cross functionally with Claims and other areas of the organization,
Qualifications:
• OTL/RIBO licensed is required, CIP/FCIP or actively working towards is preferred.
• 6+ years’ experience in the insurance industry ideally specializing in property & casualty underwriting.
• Strong writing and communication skills an asset
• Post-secondary education and/or equivalent on the job experience
• Strong level of understanding of policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manuals information, statuary constraints
• Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e., Claims, Actuarial, Finance, SIU)
• Excellent time management skills with an ability to effectively prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple activities with varying complexity with minimal supervision, meeting deadlines and produce high quality work.
• Creative problem solver with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions and create suitable plans for resolution.
• Digital customer service is preferred but not required.
• Intermediate-Advanced proficiency with MS Office (specifically word and excel)
• Intermediate-Advanced proficiency with Zendesk CRM (or comparable CRM)
