Energy Underwriting Specialist Jobs

Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and experience with capital and energy projects.

Review application forms, changes and underwriting evidence, determine appropriate underwriting requirements and make risk assessment to appropriate risk category

5 – 8 years work experience in individual underwriting, three of which has been at an intermediate level

Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, internet and database computer software

Comprehensive knowledge of medical and financial terminology

Well-developed analytical and problem resolution skills

Provide Underwriting opinion on contestable and non-contestable claims including providing recommendations on complex claims issues, policy provisions and payments.

Post-Secondary Education OR equivalent industry education and experience

Minimum 7 years of Financial Institutions or Financial Lines experience managing a large and diverse book of business from multiple brokers

Risk analysis and technical skills

Strong analysis and decision-making skills

Coverage analysis of manuscript forms with the ability to tailor them to specific client needs

Pricing analysis using data analytics and modeling tools

Monitor and assess competitive factors in the market to keep informed of changing conditions to report to management.

Post-secondary school education and/or equivalent on the job experience.

6. Work collaboratively on special projects and assignments requiring advanced technical skills and knowledge.

Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes including competitive analysis and information.

Assist in the price monitoring, risk selection and data quality performance reviews for the purpose of building knowledge and expertise.

Provide direction to support staff on data entry into the underwriting and pricing systems.

• Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e., Claims, Actuarial, Finance, SIU)

• 6+ years’ experience in the insurance industry ideally specializing in property & casualty underwriting.

5 to 10 years of experience underwriting excess casualty insurance preferably with a focus on large industrial risks.

Prior experience with operational power, heavy manufacturing, energy, mining, construction and civil projects would be considered an asset.

Previous experience with insurance business development and sales would be an asset.

Support, coaches and mentors other employees on business development, sales skills, and relationship management.

Considered an expert in the Management Liability fields with advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures within the industry.

Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong ability to multi-task.

Responsible to profitably grow a large portfolio through superior risk selection and strong broker relationships within the Management Liability space.

Regularly leads broker and client meetings effectively and is seen as an expert in the Management Liability space.

Mentors and guides others in planning, time management, productivity, and efficiency.

Knowledge of Federal and OSHA requirements is an asset

Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Assist and provide safety training on policies, procedures, and client specific requirements

Ideally 3-5 years of relevant experience

Certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician is preferred

Assist with budgeted profitability targets as identified by senior management for the zone

Post-secondary education OR equivalent industry training and experience.  Insurance industry accreditation is desirable

Manage and service an existing renewal book of commercial property insurance of the AIG Central Canadian Property portfolio 

Minimum 5 years of experience managing a large and diverse portfolio of property business including large, complex risks

Experience working with loss control engineering data in a property underwriting context

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

Experience in delivery of NZC transition plans, NZC building certifications, and energy and water audits.

Experience with analysis of building and portfolio-level energy, emissions, water, and waste performance, cost data, and knowledge of best practices.

Delivery ASHRAE level I and II energy and water audits, Net Zero Carbon (NZC) transition plans, and NZC building certifications:

Manage responses to client, tenant, and government sustainability requests.

Contribute to practice development, including creating and maintaining workflows, tools, and internal knowledge databases.

Minimum two years related engineering, real estate, and/or sustainability experience, preferably with direct consulting experience.
