You Will
We currently have a great opportunity for an Underwriting Risk Specialist to join our team and make an impact. In this dual role in addition to underwriting new business applications and non-contractual policy changes and review escalations, you will also be responsible for contestable and non-contestable claims to determine liability.

• Review formal claims complaints and claims decline appeals
• Review and provide recommendations on escalations submitted by the field or business line
• Communicate with field offices, distributors, and advisors
• Make assessment on file with rationale of decision and full documentation
• Follow admin process when decision reached
• Participate in projects including collecting, organizing and presenting data on various topics for claims and underwriting
• Provide Underwriting opinion on contestable and non-contestable claims including providing recommendations on complex claims issues, policy provisions and payments.
• Review application forms, changes and underwriting evidence, determine appropriate underwriting requirements and make risk assessment to appropriate risk category

What We Are Looking For…

• FLMI with underwriting specialty
• Well-developed analytical and problem resolution skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical and financial terminology
• 5 – 8 years work experience in individual underwriting, three of which has been at an intermediate level
• Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, internet and database computer software
• Experience coaching/mentoring others
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
• Working towards FALU
• Completion of a university degree in life sciences, nursing or kinesiology
• ALHC designation or ICA courses are an asset
