The Opportunity:
This role will be responsible for driving growth and profitability of a Management Liability portfolio through underwriting, business development and managing of products and services of complex risks. This position requires specialized knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques to include coverage issues, product lines, business development, and an ability to drive profitable growth in the marketplace.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides recommendations into portfolio optimization and profitable growth strategy both regionally and nationally.
  • Create and executes on prospecting initiatives for the Management Liability practice within FPS.
  • Mentors and guides others in planning, time management, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Recommend and implements on new ideas to drive stronger business results with an emphasis on the three Liberty Mutual Canada goals –an inspiring culture, a customer-centric mentality and a best-in-class operating model.
  • Has a solution-oriented approach to underwriting, including use of creative ideas to drive profitable business.
  • Champion Liberty Values and Guidelines for Inclusion to cultivate a best in class culture.
  • Proficiently understands policy wordings and endorsements including their impact on claims scenarios.
  • Responsible to profitably grow a large portfolio through superior risk selection and strong broker relationships within the Management Liability space.
  • Acts as a key referral point for other team members.
  • Contributes a significant portion of the team’s profitability (PTOI) and new business growth, meeting/exceeding individual targets.
  • Leads account rounding efforts through upselling additional lines of coverage to renewal business.
  • Leads by example within the team to set the standard for creating a positive Liberty experience for our key brokers and customers.
  • Challenge the status quo within Management Liability, with an emphasis on making the underwriting process more efficient and externally, making it easier to do business with LMC.
  • Support, coaches and mentors other employees on business development, sales skills, and relationship management.
  • Perform related duties as requested to include, but not limited to, report preparation, presentations, and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of the product line unit.
  • Leads discussions with key external partners on market conditions, and provides coaching within the team on delivering challenging messages.
  • Builds personal DE&I knowledge and acts as an early adopter of new DE&I skills and process/policy changes.
  • Helps elevate overall underwriting knowledge through regular posts and commentary on Teams and actively contributes in team meetings.
  • Ensure proper organization and documentation of each underwriting file.
  • Regularly leads broker and client meetings effectively and is seen as an expert in the Management Liability space.
  • Seeks out best practices and trends in the industry at large for continuous improvement at Liberty and is an early adapter for new systems and processes.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong ability to multi-task.
  • A minimum of 6 years of insurance industry experience that includes working experience with Management Liability and/or Financial Lines underwriting or broking.
  • Advanced knowledge of the suite of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work through complex issues in order to meet deadlines.
  • Highly effective communication skills.
  • Motivated, client service oriented, and highly responsive.
  • Proven ability to profitably grow a portfolio of Management Liability or Financial Lines business.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and confident decision maker.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable with critical thinking and a growth mindset, with thoughtful consideration of diverse perspectives during. decision-making and respectful of differences.
  • Must be highly proficient in understanding and analyzing financial statements.
  • Post-secondary education including relevant Insurance designation(s)/education is considered an asset.
  • Considered an expert in the Management Liability fields with advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures within the industry.
