The Opportunity:
We’re looking for an Associate Underwriter to join our growing team! This role will be accountable for profitably growing an assigned Professional Liability portfolio through superior risk selection, retention and negotiated renewal terms. Key products include Architects and Engineers E&O, Contractors Professional Liability, and Miscellaneous Professional Liability within the Ontario and Atlantic Region Underwriting team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Continuous learning and development through relevant seminars and courses, and learning from existing Liberty expertise.
  • Work closely with Senior team members, Management and Product Leaders to ensure consistency with underwriting approach and product strategies.
  • Establish positive broker and client relationships through market leading service and frequent marketing activities.
  • Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload and provide superior customer service to our brokers and clients.
  • Follow Liberty’s Guidelines for Inclusion and build on personal DE&I knowledge and skill sets.
  • Recommend and execute on innovative concepts to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the renewal process and general ease of doing business for our customers.
  • Collaborate closely with other Liberty business units to understand key customer relationships and form multi-line account solutions.
  • Profitably underwrite, service and grow a portfolio of E&O business, including Liberty’s E&O program business, ensuring alignment with Liberty’s renewal process, underwriting guidelines and strategies.
  • Actively solicit account rounding and cross-selling opportunities on assigned portfolio.
  • Effectively communicates Liberty’s underwriting appetite and applies this knowledge to streamlined renewal accounts to negotiate profitable renewal terms.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Maintains proper file documentation within required timelines.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Superior relationship management, negotiation, organizational and time management skills.
  • Must exhibit action-oriented behavioural traits and dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Post secondary education, relevant insurance designations/education or related work experience in the financial services sector is required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 is considered an asset.
  • Customer service focused with an ability to handle a high volume of business and make sound decisions under tight timelines.
  • Able to respectfully give and receive positive and constructive feedback.
  • Prior related experience in Financial Lines underwriting and/or broking is an asset.
