Northpoint Commercial Finance offers businesses across North America personal, flexible financing options such as inventory finance and asset-based lending to support their business growth needs.

This role sits within Northpoint Commercial Finance. Northpoint Commercial Finance, a subsidiary of Laurentian Bank of Canada, provides expert, flexible and personal inventory financing to dealers and manufacturers across the U.S. and Canada.

The Underwriter will underwrite and document large-ticket credit facilities across all product groups. He or she will be expected to work closely with the Sales Department at the prescreen, proposal and underwriting stages of new reviews and modifications to make sure these transactions are properly vetted and structured before they enter the review process to ensure customer satisfaction and underwriting quality are high throughout the process. The candidate should be able to work independently throughout much of the underwriting of these transactions but should also be quick to encourage collaboration with all internal stakeholders so that internal and external customers can benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach to deal-making.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to NCF's and LBC's Code of Conduct and embody the qualities identified in The Ideal Team Player by Patrick Lencioni
• Underwrite and document a combination of floorplan and, when necessary, asset-based loans
• Provide assistance to the AVP - Underwriting, CRO, AVP of Credit and Credit Manager when needed
• Participate in ad hoc and other projects related to reporting and compliance

Qualifications

• Be proficient in cash flow analysis and have an ability to recognize and articulate the key risks and elements of a transaction based on changes in a borrower's cash cycle and other factors
• Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance
• Apply a reasonableness approach to credit analysis, identifying relevant risks in transactions and using a combination of intuitiveness and judgment around empirical data to make effective decisions; Underwrite multiple, overlapping transactions during peak volume periods
• Possess 3 years' worth of underwriting experience in secured lending (ABL experience is a plus)
• Demonstrate an ability to work constructively with others, encouraging a multi-disciplinary approach to problem-solving
• Ask questions during due diligence orally and not rely on email as chief means of communication; Possess a sound understanding of the Uniform Commercial Code
• Employ a clear, concise and readable writing style that distills the essential elements of a loan application into a narrative a user can quickly and easily read to render sound credit decisions
