Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Total Care Worker to join the the Older Adult Mental Health Assessment & Treatment team at Vancouver General Hospital. Apply today to join our team!

As a Total Care Worker you will

• Selecting and carrying out activities;
• Accompanying clients on group outings;
• Participating in unit discussions and in-services;
• Observing and reporting client progress;
• And performing nursing procedures such as administering suppositories and enemas and taking and recording temperature, pulse and respiration.
• Provide personal care to clients such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and feeding.
• Provide care to the older adult population who have acute deterioration or exacerbation of severe psychiatric symptoms with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) as well as physical care needs.
• Work closely with the Program Coordinator and under the direction of the Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Social Worker, this position works with the interdisciplinary tertiary mental health team to carry out individual or group leisure activities and established nursing/personal care programs.

Education & Experience

• Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program plus 2 years’ recent experience working with older adults with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete a Food Safe certification course during their orientation/qualifying period in order to be deemed to have successfully passed their qualifying period.

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
