Opportunity
DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is seeking a Manager of Older Adult & Volunteer Programs to join our Community Development Department.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community Development, the Manager of Older Adult & Volunteer Programs is responsible for the design and delivery of responsive older adult, volunteer & civic engagement programs for seniors, newcomers and racialized individuals that are embedded in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion values. The Manager is responsible for the oversight of direct service delivery, with a focus on client-centered design, implementation, innovation, and evaluation of United Way, IRCC and other grant-funded programming within their portfolio. The Manager ensures the fulfillment of contractual deliverables, manages the human and financial resources and risk within the Older Adult & Volunteer Programs. The Manager will be deeply engaged in community and stakeholder partnerships to understand emerging client and community needs, secure and grow funding for programs/services and develop strategic partnerships to build the capacity of the programs and the agency’s strategic vision.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts recruitment, selection and hiring of new personnel to ensure seamless program delivery;
  • Prepares funding applications and proposals for contract renewals and strategic growth of programs;
  • Coaches and supports staff to continuously grow and thrive;
  • Main liaison between United Way related to all programming and reporting.
  • Responsible for operationalizing the organization’s Strategic Plan as it pertains to the Older Adult and Volunteer Programs portfolio and ensures that goals are on track to be successfully delivered;
  • Prepares budget forecasts of assigned programs and monitors program expenditures, together with the finance department;
  • Leads and supports Older Adult and Volunteer programs efficiently and effectively in accordance with best practice, contractual obligations and DIVERSEcity policy and procedures;
  • Oversees the ongoing growth of the Older Adult and Volunteer Programs to ensure needs across the organization are met.
  • Monitors and ensures program service quality, innovation, participation, utilization, and evaluation;
  • Utilizes an intersectional lens to develop services that are tailored appropriately according to age (e.g., youth, adult), culture, socio-economic background, gender, sexual orientation, income, language level, pre and post migration experiences etc. to ensure accessibility to all newcomers.
  • Provides reports to funders, assigned supervisor or Board of Directors, as required;
  • Actively participates in opportunities (both internal and external) for both knowledge and skill development in Older Adult and Volunteer programs growth and development (e.g., professional development training, coaching, program manager meetings, networking, needs assessment, community growth trends and initiatives);
  • Provides supervision and coaching to ensure all staff provide professional, client-centered support which enables culturally agile and excellent service;
  • Leads program staff from a strength-based approach and with compliance with Collective Agreement and agency Policies and Procedures;
  • Actively develops strategic partnerships with non-traditional sectors and partners;
  • Participates collaboratively within internal teams, external committees, advisory groups, and relevant networks to be informed and updated on emerging issues, build capacity of programming and to advocate on behalf of clients to help address service gaps in the community;
  • Conducts contract negotiations under the direction of the Senior Manager and Director.
  • Develops annual and long-range strategic plans to grow the older adult & volunteer and civic engagement programs portfolio;
Qualified Candidates Will Posses
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of Surrey, North Delta, White Rock, and/or Langley communities an asset;
  • Knowledge of outcomes measurement;
  • Strong English language skills including written, oral and presentation skills. A second language would be considered an asset;
  • Willing to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Proven recent program development experience, with knowledge of federal, provincial, United Way and other funding sources;
  • A minimum of 2-years’ experience working with older adult, volunteer, civic engagement and/or social integration programming;
  • Experience with budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring;
  • Strong knowledge of CRM systems would be considered an asset;
  • BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle;
  • Strong computer literacy skills MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Knowledge of seniors, immigrant communities and settlement issues;
  • Innovative, flexible, and able to manage change and uncertainty;
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in supervising staff, preferably within a unionized setting;
  • University degree in social sciences or relevant;
  • Social media marketing a definite asset;
  • Strong experience in proposal/grant writing;
  • Able to work independently and collegially in a team environment;
  • A minimum of 3-years’ experience working in a community based non-profit society or related experience;
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, discretion, and judgement;
  • A minimum of 2-years’ experience in program management;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines, in a fast-paced environment;
