Job Description
Talent Coordinator (group Benefits And Pay Administration)

PEOPLE SERVICES

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to join our People Services team as a Talent Coordinator. The successful candidate will thrive in showcasing our values of being dependable and believing that the collective “we” is greater than “they” as they guide and support other NorQuesters through their onboarding, pay, and benefit plans. You will be the first point of contact for starting our employees off with the right information and impression during commencement activities, so someone with a naturally positive and uplifting outlook will find fulfillment and success in this role. You will oversee all aspects of the college benefit plans, pay administration, and give expert advice to employees within your portfolio.

As a Talent Coordinator, you are responsible for Human Resource Information System (HRIS) updates, developing and running ad hoc queries, testing new functionality, running reports, and making recommendations to improve systems so a keen eye for detail and a sense of curiosity will help you be effective. You’ll also be given the opportunity to participate on projects and work independently to support the college’s strategic plan and really make a difference at the college.

Communication and customer service are key components of this position, and we’re looking for someone who can bring these attributes into the forefront of their workday every day.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Remain current on all ongoing changes to pay and benefits administration by reviewing updates to policies, procedures, practices, notices, and legislation. This would include collective agreements, terms & conditions of employment, Employment Standards, Alberta Pensions Services, and Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Participate in portfolio meetings with HR Business Partners to address NorQuest policies, procedures, benefits, and employment perks.
  • Participate in various department projects which could include service enhancement or system efficiencies.
  • Assist employees with all other inquiries including pension and reciprocal agreement transfers, life event changes, and death claims. Complete necessary documents for submission to appropriate benefit providers.
  • Accurately set up all compensation and benefits, leave plans, personal information, and e-mail addresses on the HRIS to meet existing payroll confirmation dates.
  • Facilitate employee orientation sessions, and advise employees of benefits available through NorQuest College to help them make informed decisions.
  • Collect and collate all new hire information and confirm that it is accurate and complete.
  • Administer the college benefit plans including communicate, enroll, terminate, and make changes to employee benefit plans, liaising with benefit providers.
  • Interpret and administer diverse and complex policies and procedures, collective agreements, and term and conditions of employment.
  • File all relevant documentation and create or update the employee file.
  • Create, sign, and issue letters relating to new hires, transfers, and promotions in a timely manner ensuring accuracy.
  • Administer benefit plan Choice Point changes including the coordination of re-enrollment of benefits.
  • Manage both insured and negotiated benefits as outlined in the collective agreements and terms and conditions of employment.
  • Notify key internal stakeholders and work with other departments to facilitate a welcoming and engaging onboarding process.

What You Bring

  • CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) designation or PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) Certification is an asset.
  • Two year post-secondary diploma in a related discipline.
  • 5 years relevant work experience with previous benefit, human resources, or payroll experience.
  • Proficient working knowledge of benefits regulations, legislation and collective agreements.

WHAT MAKES YOU A DIFFERENCE MAKER?

As a difference maker you bring

  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn from evolving technologies, practices and processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Competency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with PeopleSoft is a strong asset.
  • Customer centric approach to all you do.
  • Alignment with NorQuest’s culture and values, including an inclusive mindset and respect for students and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively deal with all clients and internal/external contacts.

Difference Makers. If we were to describe what NorQuest College is, we’d say these two words. We are so fundamentally driven in our mission to make a difference to our students, our community, and to our fellow NorQuesters, that it guides what we do, who we meet, and where we are headed.

So how do we make differences?

  • We strengthen Alberta. From our graduates who hit the ground running, to our partnerships with government, industry, and business, to our commitment to communities, including a dedicated focus on Indigenous communities, we contribute to our province and make it stronger. We strive to be an employer of choice for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in Canada by leading, supporting, and being an ally through our work toward decolonization, reconciliation, and Indigenization.
  • We unlock potential. Whether its newcomers to Canada who want to improve their English, students who want to complete their academic upgrading, learners pursuing post-secondary education, or anyone who wishes to strengthen their skills through professional development, our passion to educate touches people of all levels and all backgrounds.
  • We empower NorQuesters. When it comes to working, it’s up to you to decide where (on campus or from another location) and how you work. NorQuesters are expected to embody our Qs—lead from where you are, be dependable, find ways forward—to name a few, but how you do that is your choice!

And that’s a snapshot of how we are Difference Makers. But there’s so much more to us and we invite you to explore further!
