Job Description
Support Staff Full-time Appendix D Replacement Contract Position (July 2023 – June 30, 2024)
(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)
The Student Recruitment Advisor works one-on-one with prospective students to guide and support them through the application process and provide information on Conestoga’s academic programs and admissions requirements. The incumbent conducts phone and email outreach to students who have expressed interest in Conestoga and follows up on any inquiries or concerns and supports conversion activities by providing personalized attention and support to students during the application and enrollment process. This position plays a key role in supporting Conestoga’s strategic student recruitment goals and its vision to ensure the success of every individual wanting to attend Conestoga.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus, as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days on-site per week, and 3-4 days remote.
Responsibilities
  • Provides professional customer service in an effective and efficient manner in response to an email, phone, Zoom, and walk-in inquiries
  • Guides prospective students through the career exploration process to help them identify their educational goals
  • Assists prospective students with program application, forms, and other process documentation
  • Provides back-up coverage to represent Conestoga at local recruitment activities and presentations
  • Provides functional guidance and training for students to help support recruitment activities
  • Liaises with community service providers and their clients providing guidance on post-secondary programs and the admissions process
  • Maintains weekly statistics of individuals met with and referrals, tracked through the Customer Relation Management (CRM) software
  • Provides information about the Prior Learning and Recognition (PLAR) process and refers them to Credit Transfer
  • Provides detailed, accurate information regarding Conestoga’s academic programs and services, labour market information, and making referrals based on screening criteria, including Counselling Services, Government funded programs, academic upgrading, Credit Transfer, Student Success Advisors, and Admissions
  • Researches, assesses, and advises prospective students of additional information and resources in the areas of career planning and program admission requirements
  • Supports the manager in the hiring, training, and coaching of student marketing ambassadors ensuring a high standard of customer service is delivered by the team
  • Works with the Event & Tour coordinator on developing promotional strategies and executing recruitment activities
  • Develops and presents Program and Career Advising/Program and Career Advising – Newcomer sessions
  • Interfaces with program coordinators, admissions officers, testing and assessment staff, credit transfer advisors, continuing education, corporate training, etc. to link to prospective students with detailed information necessary to generate an application
  • Supports domestic enrolment initiatives
  • Provides back-up coverage for campus tours to prospective students, parents, and visitors
  • Develops initiatives and promotes pathways for current Conestoga students
  • Participates in large-scale off-campus recruitment events I.e. the Ontario College Fair or Skills Canada
  • Participates in recruitment activities for potential students
Qualifications
  • Experience with marketing, merchandising, promotion, or advertising
  • Demonstrated decision-making, problem solving, assessment, analytic and evaluation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Experience with workshop delivery
  • Awareness of cross-cultural communication and sensitivity to cultural adjustment
  • Ability to respond with tact and diplomacy while dealing with diverse individuals with varying challenges and needs
  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Social Services, Psychology, Marketing, Public Relations
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively multi-task
  • Three years of relevant experience in a role involving career advising, marketing, public relations, or customer service, preferably in a student-based environment
  • Contextual understanding of immigration in Ontario, Canada, and globally
  • Formal training including completion of courses from a Career Development Practitioner program preferred
  • A natural passion to help others
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Superior customer service orientation and attention to detail
