Job Description

VANCOUVER

We are a global leader in the Earth and Environment sector. Globally headquartered in Montreal, where it all began, we proudly serve communities from coast to coast and beyond. We have over 14,000 multidisciplinary professionals worldwide collaborating daily to protect and conserve natural landscapes, create firm foundations for communities to stand on, and champion sustainable development to combat climate change.

As part of the team, you will have access to an unparalleled network of resources, expertise, and endless opportunities to collaborate on exciting projects with diverse teammates from marine biologists to geophysicists to geotechnical engineers and more.

The Opportunity:

WSP currently has an opportunity for a Senior level Environmental Regulatory Specialist / Project Manager to join our Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team. Working closely with the BC Environment team you will be responsible for managing environmental assessments for major projects across all resource sectors, leading and facilitating other natural resource related studies, providing leadership and oversight on environmental permitting, leading environmental management and monitoring programs during project implementation, and project management.

In this role, you’ll be comfortable working with Canadian federal and provincial legislation, and local government bylaws and policies relating to aquatic, terrestrial, and socioeconomic environments, and to rely on your demonstrated experience navigating EIA requirements, permitting and authorizations processes relevant to resource development projects. Experience in the EIA process in BC is essential. You will blend office and field duties and will require some travel within BC and the Yukon for short duration trips and assignments, and to provide mentorship and training to junior/intermediate personnel.

A day in the life:

  • Managing projects related to renewable energy, transportation, industrial development, infrastructure, mining and oil and gas sectors;
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary environment, providing technical expertise to WSP groups on issues associated with ecological sciences.
  • Planning, coordinating and executing mandates related to environmental impact studies, other forms of environmental assessments and environmental screenings, environmental permitting and authorizations;
  • You will champion HS&E Commitment and underlying principles throughout the organization.
  • Working with your colleagues to develop regional growth and financial strategies and maintain strong working relationships with key clients;
  • Evaluating Request for Proposals and prepare responses, develop work scopes, budgets and schedules, and providing project management;
  • Preparing technical reports, permitting applications, environmental impact assessments and other associated documents;
  • Managing projects and our clients simultaneously while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment;
  • Providing environmental and regulatory leadership and representing company projects to stakeholders including regulators, industry groups, environmental groups, landowners, First Nations, and the public;
  • Acting as a mentor for junior staff and collaborate regionally and nationally with other EIA practitioners;

We'd love to hear from you if you have ...

  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment and under deadlines.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel, including to remote locations and outside standard office hours;
  • A thorough understanding of the EIA requirements in the British Columbia region and knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements in project application and approvals;
  • Project management skills with a demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports;
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Biology or a related discipline along with at least eight (8) years of relevant experience conducting environmental impact assessments, and managing projects involving biological studies;
