Job Description

Our reputable non-profit client in Ottawa which is continuouslygrowing and expanding their operations is seeking a Senior finance officer to join their dynamic team.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the mission while further developing your financial expertise. As a Senior Finance Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth running of their Finance Department. It is starting with 4 to 6 months contract with potential of going permanent for the right candidate depending upon performance. My client offers hybrid working model(2-3 days office, other days home) with flexibility on days.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly management reports.
  • Collaborate with staff on project administration as required.
  • Provide support and training to staff on the usage of finance-related software.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for accounting and payroll records.
  • Document and update finance business processes and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain staff reference and training resources for finance-related processes.
  • Accurately and promptly record financial transactions.
  • Maintain regular communication with project partners and stakeholders regarding finance-related issues.
  • Code accounts receivable transactions and handle bank deposits.
  • Code and process accounts payable transactions, ensuring timely and secure payment methods.
  • Manage payroll functions, including processing bi-weekly payroll, preparing journal entries, and ensuring accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and submit semi-annual GST/HST filings, reconciling them with general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and controls.
  • Create work plans and establish effective communication strategies with other departments regarding finance-related matters.
  • Other duties assigned by your manager.
  • Support annual audits, including those related to specific programs and funders.
  • Support the bank reconciliation process as needed.
  • Perform data entry tasks such as entering invoices, expense reports, and credit memos into the accounting software.
  • Review and verify credit card reports and expense claims, reconciling credit card accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with quarter-end and year-end procedures and the preparation of reports.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant finance experience, preferably in a non-profit or similar setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.


Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Quickbooks and Ceridian software will be an asset
  • Strong Intermediate Excel skills
  • Experience with audits and financial reporting is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
