The Role:
The Senior Director of Operations is a high impact leadership role that oversees the entire operation and control of all tractors, trailers, and drivers in the Northwest fleet. In this newly created role, the Senior Director will report to the President and will provide the forward-looking vision to ensure the Operations team is one step ahead of client demand and has a contingency plan ready. The Senior Director is the critical link between all Northwest departments and leadership to ensure fluid communication throughout the organization driving towards collective goals. This role is accountable for leading the entire operations to safely deliver the highest level of service while optimizing efficiency and profitability.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensure compliance with HSE and safety procedures.
- Understand unforeseen changes, current and upcoming power requirements, and provide ongoing coordination with the Operations team at all levels to provide guidance on solutions as needed.
- Pinpoint areas of improved efficiency or profitability and guide implementation.
- In collaboration with the Sales team, Operations leaders and customers, develop the monthly planning to ensure appropriate resources align with the demand.
- With a deep understanding of all business units, develop and communicate the vision and strategic plan to internal stakeholders.
- Play a key role in the customer service relationship, both internal and external, understanding and setting the service level expectation, resolving any issues, and supporting the growth of the overall relationship.
- Accountable for collaboration and communication across the Operations team, leveraging the strengths of each team member and facilitating their personal growth.
- Manage trailer fleet and report KPIs to drive maximum utilization. Discuss overall changes and strategy with the Executive team.
- Be the overall operations process subject matter expert, knowledgeable about all plants, drivers, and equipment across all operating zones.
- Ensure the Operations team is structured to support organizational growth while maintaining levels of service and safety.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of operations leadership experience, preferably related to the transportation industry or in a logistics role, in a fast paced and rapidly changing business environment.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Engineering, Transportation Management or related field.
- Drives a culture of accountability and results through strategy deployment and effective performance management.
- Excellent communicator with strong problem-solving and analytical skills,
- Proficiency with industry software such as TMW or comparable would be an asset.
- Proficiency with Google Business tools, and demonstration of high-level modelling/planning technology abilities in Excel or other technologies.
- Strong business acumen and customer focus. Skilled at identifying opportunities, developing customers and building partnerships both internally and externally.
- Proven ability to guide an operations group to decisions. A hands-on leader with the potential to grow further.
- Able to withstand high pressure and continuous challenges. Not afraid of failure, the confidence to adjust and adapt to a changing environment.
- Ability to optimize resources at the financial, commercial and operational levels to accomplish tasks with optimal efficiency and achieve sustainable development combined with a long-term view and approach.
- Intelligent, persistent, self-motivated and ambitious. The skills to lead, manage, coach and develop team members.
