Job Summary


As a Senior Director, for our Government Relations department at our Canadian sites, you will be responsible of promoting Charles River Laboratories’ contribution to the health and life science/pharmaceutical sector in Canada, as well as connecting with government decision-makers and relevant stakeholder communities to earn and maintain a positive public and regulatory profile.


In this role, primary responsibilities include:


  • Provide monitoring and advice on specific trade and other government affairs and public policy matters;
  • Create and maintain relationship with provincial and federal parliamentarians and members of the government, civil servants, and its agencies;
  • Lead the development and execution of government and public affairs strategies, working closely with the provincial and federal government. Shape the public and health policy environment, R&D, production, international trade, finance and fiscal policy;
  • Foster support for CRL’s plans for future investment in Canada with relevant government and related agencies at federal, provincial and municipal levels and related communities, including with a view to identifying sources of potential funding and financing;
  • Establish strong local and global functional relationships.
  • Perform legislative and regulatory analysis for a wide range of policy and political matters;
  • Promote a supportive policy environment by working collaboratively with external partners and association as well as government;
  • Stay ahead of current and future political and policy trends while developing and communicating policy positions that support company goals;
  • Shape the public and health policy environment, R&D, production, international trade, finance and fiscal policy;
  • Develop solutions through public policy thought leadership and external partner relationships;
  • Engage with public health, government officials, advocacy, trade associations;
  • Provide leadership, strategic and operational support and ensure strong engagement with policymakers, senior decision makers and all relevant external stakeholders;
  • Stay on top of changing political dynamics and government policies, identify emerging external challenges and opportunities;


Key Elements


We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role:


  • 5-10 years of experience in a government / public affairs related position;
  • Pharmaceutical or health related experience (asset).
  • Experience identifying policy trends and working with external agencies;
  • Strong bilingual (French & English) oral and written communication skills;
  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, health, political science, legal or related field;


Role Specific Information:


  • Location: Remote position supporting Canadian sites (Senneville, Laval, Boisbriand, Sherbrooke).

About Safety Assessment


Charles River is committed to helping our partners expedite their preclinical drug development with exceptional safety assessment services, state-of-the-art facilities and expert regulatory guidance. From individual specialty toxicology and IND enabling studies to tailored packages and total laboratory support, our deeply experienced team can design and execute programs that anticipate challenges and avoid roadblocks for a smooth, efficient journey to market.
