a day in the life
The Packaging Design team plans, designs and reviews all end-to-end packaging and labelling design concepts. We bring a strong creative vision to amplify the product and guest experience, and partner with the Packaging Development and Production teams to bring the vision to life. We collaborate with the Brand Creative, Retail Brand Experience (VM), Retail Operations, and Product teams to ensure our solutions meet business requirements.
the senior designer, packaging & labelling is responsible for

• Review viable concept design options with Packaging Developer in order to produce prototypes for review
• Develop and maintain packaging systems as needed
• Manage the creation of design presentations and present internally to Senior Leadership for alignment
• Understand the technical complexities of large-scale, high volume print production and can design packaging accordingly
• Manage design development by providing continued art direction and constructive feedback to the Designer
• Be proficient in working with a variety of packaging mediums such as hangtags, labels, structural and other forms as needed in order to be able to develop the appropriate type of packaging for the product
• Art direct the creation of packaging design concepts against the creative brief
• Understand the retail environment, visual merchandising, and shopper behaviour in order to create viable packaging that is aesthetically appropriate and functionally sound
• Review prototypes and manage revisions with Designer based on aesthetic and functional requirements taking into account feedback from senior leadership and visual merchandising partners
• Select final design execution based on prototyping and support the pre-production process with Production Designer to prepare for production artwork creation and bulk production

Qualifications

• Systems Thinking: holistic approach to analysis that focus on the way a system's constituent parts interrelate
• Understanding of the retail environment (shopper behaviour, visual merchandising)
• Minimum eight years of design and art direction experience
• Degree or Diploma specializing in Graphic/Communication Design
• Proficiency with rendering creation and mastery of 3D Design and software
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs
• Demonstrated ability to present to senior leadership
• Mastery of Adobe Suite (In Design, Illustrator, photoshop)
• Design Thinking: ability to create solutions that meet the consumer need
• Ability to multi-task and manage various projects simultaneously
• Ability to articulate point of view and decisions about deliverables and projects and understand long range impacts of decisions
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to coach, mentor and teach junior team members
• Mastery of packaging technical terminology, proficiency of retail terminology an asset
