Position Overview


Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Infrastructure Senior Design Manager in our Design Build Group. The rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, systems and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.


District Overview


Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Location


This position is based out of our Oakville, Canada office.


Responsibilities


  • Develops project budgets, schedules and staffing plans for KIE final design projects.
  • Leads and manages technical teams for assigned design disciplines during a pursuit or final design project.
  • Mentors junior staff with technical and professional development.
  • Ensures Kiewit's Standard Operating Procedures are communicated and followed.
  • Monitors and reports progress against design schedule.
  • Responsible for completion of project design tasks within engineering disciplines, in accordance with project design criteria and project management plans.
  • Has the flexibility to work within multiple design disciplines.
  • Controls cost of the design and all engineering services.
  • Partners with design discipline lead and construction estimator/superintendent to meet project objectives.
  • Reviews and administers design engineering contracts.
  • Manages quantities and constructability throughout the design process for assigned design discipline.


Qualifications


  • Licensed Professional Engineer with ability to obtain registration in other provinces/states as projects may require.
  • 15+ years of directly related experience in delivery of design-build and/or P3 projects in both the pre- and post-award phases. At least five of these years in the Project Manager/Design Manager position with project management responsibility on large complex multidisciplinary projects. Prior work experience on transportation project valued at $100M+.
  • Experience reviewing and administering engineering contracts for design-build projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation.
  • Proven experience in highway and bridge project delivery is required; and experience in delivery of projects in other transportation service sectors (rail & transit, aviation and ports) is desired.
  • Strong technical background as a design engineer for design-build projects in at least one of the civil engineering disciplines common to infrastructure projects (roadways, rail & transit, drainage, structures, geotechnical etc.).
  • Five or more years of managing an engineering and design team of 10 or more.
