Job Description
This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).


In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff (TLAPO) Agreement , this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $69,887 - $116,044. This position has an initial appointment of 1 year plus a 1 day from the date of hire.


Location


Work will primarily take place at North Campus Edmonton. This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person.

Working for the Department/Faculty


The University Initiatives Office (UIO) was established to coordinate complex and cross-functional strategic initiatives across the University of Alberta. The UIO is focused on implementing solutions to improve the experience of users who access U of A services, and for users working within these business processes.


Position


The Senior Consultant, Organizational Change Management, applies various change management practices and methodologies to assist process users and other stakeholders to understand, adapt to, and adopt process change from transformation and the implementation of automation. By working collaboratively as part of a team, the incumbent creates informed change management strategies that include communication and engagement activities, as well as integrating training/development and resistance management to encourage adoption.


The Senior Consultant, Organizational Change Management, will play a key role in ensuring new change initiatives introduced into the organization meet business objectives. You will focus on the people side of change by creating and implementing program and project related change management strategies, plans and processes that maximize business value through employee adoption and usage.


In this role, you will work to drive faster adoption and better utilization of the change to ensure benefit realization, value creation, and the achievement of business results.


Duties


  • Proactively identifies and interprets resistance to change that affects UIO plans.
  • Creates important, explanatory information from complex quantitative or qualitative data (e.g., adoption and utilization data).
  • Anticipates, identifies, mitigates, and manages resistance.
  • Develops stakeholder engagement strategies to ensure transformations align with user needs.
  • Analyzes problems or issues in a systematic way to identify underlying causes. Engages in a range of approaches to generate possible resolutions. Provides holistic and practical solutions.
  • Demonstrates a broad understanding of the internal and external context in which the University operates. Anticipates issues and challenges and aligns work and recommendations accordingly.
  • Shares key learnings and portrays an attitude that encourages others to see the positive outcomes from doing things differently and adapting through effectively managed change.
  • Keeps current on research and trends in the change management/business transformation discipline.
  • Exercises deep understanding of process improvement, change impact, and service transformation initiatives.
  • Coaches leaders, stakeholders and users through the whole change lifecycle.
  • Oversees the development and delivery of communication, process documentation, and user training for sustained change.
  • Generates original ideas, formulates strategies, proposes change strategy, and develops innovative change management.
  • Leads change management components from design, through implementation and assessment for transformation initiatives.
  • Works with other team members to redesign University practices and processes and to promote and sustain enduring change.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the approach and the language used when making recommendations or delivering solutions to varied audiences (e.g., use of examples, analogies, storytelling).
  • Develops conceptual change frameworks to ensure adoption by users and stakeholder groups.
  • Creates new concepts, shares new ideas, and develops new perspectives through stakeholder/user consultation and focus group sessions.
  • Develops customized, fit-to-purpose change strategies and plans that demonstrate a deep understanding of specific practice/process changes, and applies change practices such as communications, engagement, change networks, training, etc.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Certification(s) in Organizational Change Management (Prosci, CCMP, etc.)
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in Organizational Change Management
  • Bachelor’s Degree.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to act decisively and to exercise initiative and strong judgement on a wide range of issues.
  • An understanding of the structure and issues facing a large post-secondary institution is an asset.
  • Understanding of technology, enterprise systems and other platforms to advance service delivery and excellence. Demonstrated familiarity with frameworks for service performance and improvement.
  • High level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to model professional, ethical, and collaborative behaviors.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to move diverse groups toward consensus.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and implementing change.
  • Current connections to, and participation in, professional organizations or forums for the exchange of knowledge and ideas about service innovation.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills, including the ability to tactfully deliver advice, feedback, and unwelcome news.
