Job Description
Your Opportunity:


Are you passionate about changing how surgical care in Alberta is delivered? The Access Improvement Team is looking for a dynamic new team member who likes to build connections, start thought-provoking conversations, and work on fast paced projects. This position will support the Alberta Surgical Initiative (ASI) Specialty Access Bundle, which commits to ensure that all scheduled surgeries occur within clinically recommended timelines by 2024. Your practical experience working in the patient’s medical home and/or specialty care focusing on care transitions such as referrals and discharge will be important to moving this work forward. This position will play an important leadership role, reporting directly to the Provincial Director Access Improvement.


Description:


The successful incumbent will be accountable for making decisions and providing leadership in the development and implementation of ASI deliverables within the Specialty Access Bundle to improve the patient journey through the provision of specialist advice to primary care providers along with a centralized access and distribution of referrals for surgical consultation. As an integral part of the team, they will collaborate with primary care physicians, surgeons, patients and zonal operations in planning and implementation of provincial standards designed to improve specialist advice and surgical consultation through the Calgary zone Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment (FAST) team. They must have the ability to work in a complex environment, develop, foster and maintain successful relationships with the ASI Specialty Access Bundle leadership, senior healthcare leaders, provincial and zone-based clinical and operational leaders, front-line staff, surgeons, IT, physicians, representatives from a variety of support groups, patient and family advisors, and other key stakeholders. They are a person with strong communication skills who loves to learn, can make time-sensitive decisions and is comfortable facilitating large group discussions. They will contribute to the overall strategic planning and evaluation of ASI programs and services, while ensuring there is a systematic approach to project management activities. Required Qualifications:


A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a related field (healthcare profession, business, education, etc.). Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. 10 years of varied professional experience which includes at least 2 years of leadership experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects, programs, and people with tight timelines. Demonstrated knowledge in project management, change management and process/quality improvement methodologies. Proven progressive pattern of professional and personal development. Comfortable working and communicating with physicians, nurses, allied health, senior leadership, and other stakeholders. Experience in managing complex issues and working toward collaborative resolution. A critical thinker with experience initiating and fostering positive relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders. Ability to interpret organizational and external challenges and recommends best practices to improves processes or services. Experience in resource management including planning and budget responsibility. a strategic thinker with proven abilities in complex problem solving, concerns resolution, investigation, and negotiation.


Additional Required Qualifications:


Diverse healthcare leadership experience is preferred. Successful leadership experience in project management environments including project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation. Demonstrated knowledge in research methodologies. Extensive experience managing in a cross-functional team environment, with skill in managing several teams at once. Effective communicator with positive influential skills that support an orientation to patient and family-centered care and commitment to providing quality services. Experience participating in senior level planning, research projects, project analysis, outcomes, report development and dissemination of results. Knowledge and experience in the application of business planning, modeling concepts, and program/project management theories, principles, and practices. Ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.


Preferred Qualifications:


A graduate degree in a healthcare discipline, health care management, business administration or related field Leadership training courses/sessions. Relevant clinical training (e.g., Registered Nurse, Physiotherapist, etc.). Relevant certification (e.g., PROSCI, Project Management Professional (PMP), Healthcare Project Management, etc.). Program budgeting experience preferred. Background in, or familiar with, primary care networks and/or surgical specialties.
