The Senior Advisor, Communications will provide communications strategy, planning and execution to strategic initiatives and high priority projects within the organization. The principal responsibilities of this include: leadership responsibility for developing and implementing communications plans to support the launch of large-scale programs or services for the organization or broader health care system, writing and editing for diverse audiences, products, and vehicles; providing communications support to defined, time-bound projects and teams; monitoring and evaluation, spreading and scaling best practices to protect and enhance Ontario Health’s brand and performing other related duties are required. The senior advisor is responsible for managing objectives of high priority and complexity, and department-specific processes.
Here is what you will be doing:
- Protect and enhance the Ontario Brand through partnerships and communications and marketing products
- Lead, support, and work in collaboration with teams across the organization on strategic and corporate initiatives
- Research emerging trends/best practices and determines implications of findings on Ontario Health strategies and to inform strategic communications advice
- Manages and leads the development and implementation of multiple communications strategies and tools that support initiatives across the organization
- Ability to coach or mentor Communications Advisors as needed
- Push the boundaries of what has been done before using the latest tools, techniques and trends within health care communications
- Shares knowledge and collaborates between distinct functions and stakeholders within Ontario Health
- Monitor, evaluate and report on success/learnings of strategies and campaigns and apply to future work
- Provide cross-functional leadership — establish and lead cross portfolio and project team to achieve defined project objectives on time and within budget
- Ability to work with little supervision and high degree of autonomy, with ability to interact directly with senior leaders Working within a team, ensure positive working relationships
- Provides strategic communications project leadership, managing the delivery of medium to large strategic Ontario Health communications initiatives within projected scope, schedule, and cost constraints
- Lead and provide subject matter expertise, strategic advice and general counsel for all aspects of communications to leaders at Ontario Health
- Develop and deliver core communication materials such as communications plans, key messages, briefing notes, reports and presentations
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders across the health system
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
- Experience working in a large-scale organization, public sector experience preferred
- Minimum 7+ years of communications or related work experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations/marketing or a related field with experience managing complex deadline driven projects
- Experience in managing resources and project teams to deliver on communications plans and strategies
- Health care experience would be an asset
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven written, oral and presentation skills
- Experience building consensus among internal stakeholders
- Experience creating communications strategies for large scale programs or services
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Well versed in communications practices, particularly in the areas of strategy and planning
- Strong leadership skills with the ability and experience to work across all levels
- Strong storytelling experience and aligning strategies to the overall corporate narrative
- Has an understanding of health care policy in Ontario
- Ability to multi-task and have good organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to customer service
- Knowledge and application of industry communications evaluation/measurement approaches and tools.
- High degree of collaboration and the ability to influence to achieve program/project objectives while protecting/enhancing the organizational brand
- Excellent Understanding of strategic communications and stakeholder relations
- Sound judgement, discretion and decision-making ability.
- Ability to manage multiple programs of work and delegate
- Aptitude for problem solving
- Ability to work flexibly to tight deadlines, under pressure, as part of a team
- Proficient within Office365
