What skills & qualifications do I need?

Assesses and analyzes business operations to effectively evaluate options and manage programs and special projects within established timelines.

Supports the coordination and development of materials for Board of Directors and Customer Experience Committee meetings.

Experience within an engineering or transit infrastructure environment would be an asset.

Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of political science, communications, and public relations.

Leads the Risk Program for the department and associated reporting for senior audiences.

Demonstrated knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements is required;

An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment is preferred;

The ability to work collaboratively, build relationships with internal and external partners, and manage multiple demands to meet deadlines.

Experience working within a multi-reporting organizational structure is an asset;

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and a high level of attention to detail are required.

In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Strategic Communications Manager’s responsibilities will be:

Manage the creation of an annual report with inputs from all departments

Excellent interpersonal and teamworkskills, with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure

Strong creative, strategic, analytical and organizational skills

Experience working with a website CMS (we use WordPress) and editing HTML or CSS files

Experience working in an organization that prioritizes advocacy and/or public engagement

Evidence of success in complex project management and issues management

Minimum seven (7) years experience in public relations or journalism

Experience in media relations, community relations and government relations

Demonstrated creativity and design skill

University Degree in Journalism (preferred) or University Degree and a Certificate/Diploma in Public Relations or Communications

Demonstrated maturity and excellence in communication, team building, interpersonal communication and the ability to initiate and model positive change

Computer literacy with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database applications.

Possesses business acumen and analytical skills to anticipate financial and business requirements and ensure effective use of resources.

Partner with VCH Communications Leads to co-create compelling communications and educational content, using a variety of media.

Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead and inspire staff, and build a team environment that fosters trust and respect.

Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.

Experience with strategic communications planning, staff / partner / vendor management.

The Manager, Strategic Communications must be flexible and solutions-oriented and have experience managing people, projects, and relationships.

Manage the communications budget including but not limited to recommending spend, soliciting quotes and RFPs, and submitting invoices.

Manage relationships with key vendors including agencies, translators, and others.

Manage translation requests for all communications across the organization.

5–7 years of relevant agency, not-for-profit, or public sector experience in communications.

Professional experience in social media management would be considered an asset.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing and changing priorities.

Experience in a client service role.

Experience in providing communications or strategic advice.

The above experience within a government setting would be considered an asset.

Completion of post-secondary education in communications or a related field is an asset.
