The Office of John Aldag, Member of Parliament for Cloverdale – Langley City, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Senior Communications Advisor.

About the Role

Reporting to the Member of Parliament, the Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for developing and providing expert input on communications strategies, services, products, tools, and advice. This includes building stakeholder relations and managing products in the ethnically diverse riding of Cloverdale – Langley City, of which, 46% of residents are visible minorities.

Primary duties:

A. Correspondence & Communication: • Focus on working and communicating within the diverse communities of Cloverdale – Langley City, including having products produced in multiple languages; • Drafts and disseminates press releases, quotes, and comments to the media (local and multi-language media) to maximize opportunities for Member’s media exposure; • Promotes the work of the Member through social media, press, broadcast, online media, and literature in multiple languages as needed; • Monitors and updates the Member’s social media profiles and website. Looks for opportunities to develop effective online engagement strategies.

B. Operations: • Engaging in the day-to-day operations of the Constituency Office as needed; • Oversee planning and logistics for group visits and special events within the Constituency.

The ideal candidate would have the following experience, education and skillset: • Diploma or degree in a related discipline OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience; • Knowledge of multi-media communication relations and technologies, including social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest) and mobile technology, to capitalize on technological advancements in information-gathering and environmental scanning. • Knowledge of current events and the parliamentary environment, combined with highly developed communications skills to provide strategic communications products and services relating to high-profile, politically sensitive issues.

Asset • Knowledge of the riding of Cloverdale – Langley City. • Previous experience in dealing with the press. • Additional Language(s) considered an asset.
