About The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Health Services Women & Children – Community-Based or designate, the Secretary is responsible for a wide variety of secretarial duties and functions within Health Services Women & Children, including, but not limited to, reception and telephone, computer applications, typing and transcription, management/staff/program support, client and community contacts, documentation and records management, research support, program administration and general office duties.
The Secretary exhibits sound judgment and initiative while working within the philosophy, objectives, guidelines, legislations, policies and procedures, Mission, Vision and Strategic Direction of Health Services Women & Children and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the Nova Scotia Health.
About You

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently as well as demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
  • Accurate keyboarding skills with a minimum speed of 45 wpm with a maximum five (5) percent error rate.
  • Ability to deal calmly and tactfully with stressful situations.
  • Superior organizational, communication (listening, oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), Meditech, and Community-Wide Scheduling, with the ability to acquire additional skills (SAP; database), required
  • Grade XII plus successful completion of a recognized secretarial program and a medical terminology course
  • Minimum two years’ experience preferred in a responsible secretarial position in a health-related field
  • Ability to be flexible in adapting to changing operational requirements.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional interpersonal relationships with all levels of staff and clients.

Permanent Part Time 40% - 28 Hours Bi-weekly
Includes weekends
Compensation and Incentives
$20.25 - $22.50 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
