Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Research Assistant's primary purpose is to assist the Principle Investigator and support the research team through providing semi-skilled or skilled technical procedures. This will include reviewing the literature, writing manuscripts, recruiting participants from a clinical setting and analysis to assist in the goals of the research.
***This position is Located at the Alberta Children's Hospital.***
This is a recurring part-time position. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular basis.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Located at the Alberta Children's Hospital, and under general supervision & direction of the PI, the research assistant will be required to develop and implement original projects within the guidelines of the research
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Keep work area clean and safe
  • Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
  • Train other staff and students in the operation of project protocols
  • Examples of tasks will include: recruit participants from a clinical setting, administer and score psychological and neuropsychological assessments, develop and maintain a database, enter data within SPSS, prepare manuscripts for publication
  • Manage own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet skills
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience within the research specialty field
  • Familiarity and demonstrated proficiency with SPSS
  • Knowledge of theory and practical application
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • WHMIS
  • Knowledge or experience undertaking literature reviews
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
  • Bachelors Degree in Psychology
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
