Our Cariboo Pulp division in Quesnel, BC has an immediate opening for the dynamic role of:

PURCHASING SUPERINTENDENT

Reporting to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager, this position will be responsible for managing all aspects of the procurement activities and purchasing/stores personnel. This position also ensures that all capital, maintenance and general goods and services required by the mill are procured and administered in compliance with corporate and company purchasing policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of capital expenditure budgets and projects
• Provide leadership and guidance to all internal stakeholders for procurement and inventory management
• Disposal and cost recovery of surplus/obsolete assets
• Negotiate supply contracts for the division in collaboration with Corporate Purchasing
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Support, lead and promote Corporate initiatives
• Manage vendor relationships (sources, evaluates and monitors vendor performance)
• Review T&Cs/site contracts for value, and negotiate changes as required
• Oversee and participate in the development of procurement and control policies, practices, processes
• Supervision of staff and union personnel, including coaching, development, and performance management
• Support and participate in the Division’s safety programs
• Supervise all procurement activities and participate in high value, high risk activities for all inventory and direct charge
• Supervise the preparation and distribution of RFPs/RFQs
• Accountable for inventory level reviews and physical inventory counts
• Provide overview and direction for the management of ISO component as they relate to purchasing/inventory

The Successful Candidate Will Possess

• Embody the West Fraser traits of integrity, humility, teamwork, frugality, innovation, competitiveness, and respect
• Strong planning, organizational skills, and decision-making skills
• Change management skills (initiating, facilitating and implementing change)
• Professional Designation (SCMP) or participation in Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) towards a Professional Designation.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
• Working knowledge of CMMS systems (specifically Oracle and Maximo) would be considered a strong asset
• A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
• Have the desire to learn, grow, and succeed
• A detailed and proactive approach to work, with a high level of motivation
• A minimum of five (5) years purchasing experience preferably in a pulp mill or related forestry industry
