The Assistant Superintendent of Schools reports to the Superintendent of Schools/CEO and works collaboratively with other members of the Senior Management team to advance the vision and mission of the District. This position is responsible for supervision and leadership of elementary and secondary schools.

Guided by the District’s strategic plan, the Assistant Superintendent defines and implements long-term goals, strategies, and plans; oversees school plans; and monitors progress. To ensure the quality of educational programs and further our commitment to equitable and inclusive schools, the Assistant Superintendent engages stakeholders, sponsors and leads innovation, and develops individual and team leadership capacity.

We are seeking a courageous and resilient leader with exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to apply a systems lens to issues, opportunities, and change, and a strong background in instructional leadership and resource management. The ideal candidate will be able to engage stakeholders in shared vision and actions to support a meaningful learning experience that acknowledges social, cultural, and economic diversity.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A member in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch
• Systems sensibility, political awareness, and change management skills
• Ability to build an effective leadership team and create a positive adult learning environment
• Successful leadership experience in the public school system, preferably at both the school and district levels
• Experience leading a range of educational priorities
• Demonstration of BCSSA’s Dimensions of Practice www.bcssa.org/about-us/dimensions-of-practice
• Knowledge and recognition of Indigenous education and reconciliation practices
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field
• Solid understanding of public education governance
• Strong understanding and practice of deep learning pedagogies
• Demonstrated ability to make complex and ethical decisions in service of students
