Overview


Reporting to the Metro Vancouver Ready-Mix Operations Manager, the Operations Superintendent is responsible for all supporting aspects of their assigned plants. The Operations Superintendent will ensure all targets, budgets and objectives are met for their area. This role supports the Plant Managers and the Operations Managers to ensure Lafarge continues to lead the way in safety excellence, employer of choice and customer service.


The Operations Superintendent role ensures that all facets of plant facilities meet the demands of production, delivery logistics and safety while meeting efficiency and budgetary targets. The role will also have a strong focus on operational innovations, initiatives and continuous improvements instilled to the business.


Responsibilities


  • Ensure plant production is within quality specifications, investigate non-compliance as necessary
  • Assisting with coordinating all on site activities such as site work, production, maintenance and maximum utilization of equipment, personnel and subcontractors
  • Review and propose improvements of processes for plant related activities
  • Interpret and monitor environmental aspects and issues as it pertains to the plant and on-road regulations
  • Property maintenance and management
  • Ensure that the workforce complies with policies, procedures and regulations
  • Support in maintaining inventory of all necessary raw materials
  • Ensure training requirements are up to date and offered as required to meet Lafarge standards
  • Spearhead the implementation of new operational initiatives and technology including but not limited to aggregate offload monitoring, OT management, specialty pour on-site support, and other duties as required
  • Support with month-end reporting including but not limited to inventory and variance reports, KPI summaries, financial reviews, and other
  • Conduct and report on incident investigations
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example; performs all work activities following all relevant safety policies and procedures
  • Monitor compliance with commercial vehicle regulations and dotted line responsibilities to maintenance manager, if necessary

  • Continuous improvement of safety results and standards of expectation
  • Execution and delivery of new operational initiatives and technology
  • Manages change through influence on front-line staff
  • Monitors and meets Operations Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and all targets related to safety, delivery logistics, and fleet, customer, and plant site management


Dimensions / Relationships With Others’ Jobs


  • Matrix reporting structure to Operations Manager, Metro Vancouver RMX and Plant Managers
  • Support other department Managers as needed
  • Directly supervise concrete delivery and plant production in a unionized environment
  • Works closely with Plant Managers, Production Manager, Customer Care Logistics Manager, Quality Manager and Field Operations Manager.


Qualifications


Education and Work Experience:


  • Demonstrate strong application skills of MS Office Suite, Google Suite and other software’s is required. Preference will be given to applicants that can prove prior experience in this space.
  • Knowledge of or experience with industrial and production-based facilities and logistics
  • Previous experience in a management/supervisory of a unionized environment role an asset
  • College Diploma or Degree in Engineering, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to applicants with technical and leadership experience.
