Job Description

The Opportunity:
WSP is currently seeking a Project Manager with an understanding of building envelope performance and experience in assessment and construction review to join our Building Sciences team, located at our Ottawa (2611 Queensview Drive) office. This position will be responsible for managing building envelope evaluation and restoration consulting services in the National Capital Region.

We have unique expertise in engineering, material science, building envelopes/enclosures, constructability, project management, cost estimating and asset management. Building Sciences is primarily focused on serving the needs of building owners and managers. Our aim is to understand, design and enhance the built environment by building solutions at every opportunity. We provide expert assessment of existing building enclosures, provide guidance to our clients on the range of management strategies available to address deterioration, prepare the designs and specifications, and manage the project to completion, providing hands-on quality assurance and contract administration to promote the desired outcome with respect to performance and cost control.
Joining a team of over 30 passionate building sciences employees and reporting to our Cladding Team Leader, this position will be responsible for coordinating internal project teams; managing budgets, schedules and project resources; understanding and communicating client scope and expectations, schedule; acting as the client’s main point of contact. There is also an opportunity in this position to connect with our Centres of Excellence, which connects our business of over 200 building sciences specialists nationally and supports our vision to be a best-in-class service provider and the number one client choice for Building Science services in Canada.
As a successful candidate, you will have experience with a wide range of building enclosure materials and systems, have experience in the design and technical evaluation of building enclosures, and have a good understanding of the coordination of construction activities.

A day in the life:
Projects
  • Manage the contract administration and quality of restoration projects at the construction stage;
  • Evaluate contractor performance to ensure project deliverables and quality standards are achieved;
  • Prepare client proposals, investigation reports and construction documents;
  • Communicate effectively with the team and collaborate with senior technical resources from across the country to ensure quality of deliverables and best-in-class service;
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities of those on the project team and ensure expectations are understood;
  • Oversee evaluation and construction projects and deliver cutting-edge building science services, including restoration engineering and building envelope design and renewal;
  • Conduct roof / building envelope investigations and field reviews to determine design and repair options;
  • Keep the project team and client informed of site issues impacting project quality and resolve issues as required;
  • Provide technical advice to clients and direct project teams (consultants and contractors);
Project Management
  • Maintain a consistent project workload to achieve annual revenue targets and staffing targets for more junior employees.
  • Lead meetings with clients and stakeholders to receive feedback, discuss revisions and enhance the trust relationship.
  • Understand and manage client expectations and direct WSP performance to meet or exceed them.
  • Assign project team and manage project to achieve deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Hold close-out meetings to review staff performance and provide timely and constructive feedback to team members; use project outcomes to enhance our processes and procedures.
  • Handle P.O.s and invoicing and manage Accounts Receivable within targets.
  • Understand client needs and goals in order to prepare winning proposals for building assessment, envelope evaluations, design work, and construction review/contract administration work.
  • Apply Triple Bottom Line (financial, social and environmental) thinking to each client project.

We'd love to hear from you if you have...
  • Transfer or receipt of security clearance with PSPC will be required for successful applicants.
  • Proven success managing restoration and construction projects in a variety of building types;
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Science, Diploma in Architectural / Engineering Technology or a construction-related discipline;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building sciences, engineering or architecture;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Possess a valid G-class driver’s license; and
  • An excellent communicator, with strong verbal, written and presentation skills in the English language. French is an asset, but not a requirement;
  • P.Eng. designation is an asset
  • A solid foundation and keen interest in building envelope systems and materials ;
  • A team player who thrives on working with other successful, energetic people;
