Program Manager - Ontario Environment

About the Role

Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) (www.environmentaldefence.ca) works with governments and individuals to enable lasting environmental change. Salary range is $60 – $75K depending on experience. This role will be reporting to the Executive Director.

Purpose of the Role

We seek an experienced Program Manager to lead Environmental Defence’s efforts to protect Ontario’s natural heritage and advocate for smart growth and sound land-use planning (yourstoprotect.ca). In particular, the Program Manager will be responsible for co-creating, updating and overseeing the progress on the work plan, contributing to content development, developing the agenda and leading the weekly meetings, writing blogs, issue briefs and press release drafts and taking part in fundraising proposal development.

Your primary role will be to work with a robust team of legal, communications, public engagement and campaigning experts striving to halt the destruction of Ontario’s Greenbelt (via our HandsofftheGreenbelt.ca campaign), stop the proposed Highway 413 (via our StopHwy413.ca campaign) and broader environmental values.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and update the agenda for the weekly team meetings
• Oversee the work plan and track delivery of the different elements
• Work with the development team to identify funding opportunities and contribute to funder updates, grant writing and report writing as needed.
• Produce relevant communications-ready information that can be used for blogs, video, website text, press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social media content, research reports
• Work with the engagement team at EDC on tactics to engage EDC supporters and Ontarians on relevant issues, including e-blasts, online petitions and public events.

Skills and Experience

• Strong understanding of project management and campaign strategy development and execution
• Experience in environmental or conservation programming or campaigning
• Thrives in a team environment, and can build strong working relationships
• Demonstrated desire to affect change to enhance environmental protection and the public interest
• Strategic thinker, with great attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Results-driven and self-motivated
• Flexibility and ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
• Efficient time and workload management skills

Location

This role will be a hybrid role, part-time in the office and part-time work from home. Toronto strongly preferred.
