Position Summary
Reporting to the Chair of the School of Environmental and Civil engineering Technology, the professor is responsible for preparing, and delivering courses within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology (FASET) ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.
Program Area/Level
Responsible for teaching course(s) in the Sustainable Urban and Transportation Planning (UBS) program.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the senior academic officer of Seneca or designate, the Professor is responsible for
Teaching
  • Implementing appropriate educational technology and tools in flexible classes.
  • Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.
  • Incorporating active learning strategies in flexible classes
  • Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.
  • Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.
  • Providing a learning environment, which makes effective use of available resources, work experience and field trips.
Course and Curriculum Development
  • Ensuring an equitable and accessible learning community on online, hybrid and in-person classes.
  • Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable.
  • Consulting with program and course directors and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers and students.
  • Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.
  • Defining course objectives, and evaluating and validating these objectives.
  • Assessing students based on formative and summative assessments (alternative and authentic) for online and in-person classes.
  • Specifying or approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
Academic Leadership
  • Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.
  • Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the Instructors' teaching assignments.
Qualifications
Education
  • RPP certification is required.
  • Minimum of a completed Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or closely related field. If education is in a related field, state how it is relevant. Master’s or PhD degree is an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of related industry experience.
Skills
  • Demonstrated research skills with industry connections.
  • Demonstrated competencies to deliver flexible teaching.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and human relation skills to interact effectively with the College’s multi-cultural/racial/able staff and student population is required, as is an understanding of and commitment to equity in education.
  • Commitment to a team approach for problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applied planning principles. This includes but is not limited to the following legislation and policy analysis, gathering relevant studies, data and special analysis conducted through GIS, and the creation of concept plans and drawings.
Note A teaching demonstration may be required during the recruitment process.
