Job Details
Position Title: Professor, Police Foundations Diploma
Status: Full-Time Academic
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Social & Community Services
Campus/Location: Lakeshore Campus
Salary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.
Interview Date(s): Successful candidates can expect to be interviewed on Tuesday June 27, 2023 or Wednesday June 28, 2023.
What You Will Do
The successful candidate will be required to teach a broad range of courses in the Police Foundations Program, and Justice portfolio of programs in the Faculty of Social and Community Services. The incumbent will teach, develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees and related associations. Teaching will be assigned at both the North and Lakeshore campuses, and may include teaching at the International Graduate School (Toronto).
The incumbent will also support student advising, student recruitment, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and develop and maintain strong industry ties.

What you will bring to the role:
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Sociology or a relevant discipline, along with a minimum of 5 years of proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Experience
Industry acumen, and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience is required. The incumbent will have a demonstrated ability to teach a number of courses offered by the college, along with specialized competencies in the following areas: interviewing, investigations, evidentiary procedures, community policing, and ethics and accountability in policing. The incumbent must also have a strong understanding of relevant justice legislation such as the Police Services Act, Charter of Rights and Freedoms, YCJA, Criminal Code, and the Mental Health Act.
In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate will possess well developed interpersonal communication and problem solving skills and have demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery.
