Position Title: Professor, Writing and Communications
Status: Full-time Academic
Faculty: Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Campus/Location: North Campus, Lakeshore Campus, and International Graduate School (IGS)
Salary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees
What You Will Do
The successful candidate will teach and develop curriculum for a variety of core writing and communications courses across multiple programs and credential levels at the college. In addition, the candidate may be asked to teach in and develop curriculum for the Professional Writing and Communications Graduate Certificate program. A graduate degree in a relevant field, such as Rhetoric and Composition, Professional Communication, Technical Communication, Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, or English is required. Candidates with educational backgrounds in other fields are invited to demonstrate how their education can be adapted to teaching writing and communications.
In addition to teaching and assessing student progress and achievement, the candidate will also develop culturally competent, responsive, and relevant curriculum, design or revise specific courses, work collaboratively with colleagues, and participate in committees, applied research projects, and other department-wide, Faculty-wide or college-wide initiatives. Teaching could be assigned at any Humber campus and in the online environment.

Education
A graduate degree in a field or discipline related writing and communications.
Experience And Skills
In addition to the qualifications described above for each of the professor positions, the successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
  • Ability to foster innovation and positive change in all aspects of the professor role
  • Strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching and assessment practices, and apply a student-centred approach to all aspects of teaching and classroom management
  • Ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture
  • Ability to coach, support, and manage the learning environment for a diverse group of students using culturally responsive, equity-informed pedagogies to support the creation of inclusive and welcoming learning spaces
  • Cultural competency to develop and deliver culturally responsive curriculum
  • Previous postsecondary teaching experience in areas related to writing and communications, which can include the role of professor, course instructor or teaching assistant
  • Engaging and effective teaching skills to help students achieve learning outcomes in both in-class and online adult learning environments
  • Ability to create an effective and innovative learning environment
The Following Would Be Considered Strong Assets
  • The ability to teach curricula in the Professional Writing and Communications Graduate Certificate
  • TESL Ontario Certification
  • Community or industry-based research or other engagement related to writing and communications
  • Online teaching and online course development experience
  • A commitment to experiential learning, with the ability to provide examples from previous teaching experiences
  • Experience in both writing as a profession and writing as part of a profession
