Your opportunity
We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Planning Technician in our London or Windsor Office.
As a Planning Technician with keen attention to detail, you thrive on producing high quality deliverables. You are driven by tight deadlines in a fast-paced collaborative team environment. Your strong time management and communication skills allow you to manage multiple tasks on a wide range of projects with varying client and project team needs. As a key member of our team, you use autocad and other graphics programs to create detailed site plans, eye-catching presentations and can develop creative solutions to complex problems in a three-dimensional space.
Our Planning team consists of a diverse group of Registered Professional Planners, GIS Specialists, Transportation Planning Professionals and Environmental Managers that will support your growth and development. If you want to be involved in Land Development planning projects, and the creation of high quality visual drawings and presentations; our team is ready to meet you and help you achieve your full potential.
Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Planning & Design
  • Develop high quality graphics and maps for reports, consultation materials and proposals
  • Provide support to Planning Team members
  • Develop detailed site plans, draft plans and drawing submission packages
  • Travel to other business locations and Dillon offices for the purposes of executing your responsibilities, internal/external client relationship development, opportunity/project research, acquisition and project delivery
  • Write reports, memos, and complete necessary planning applications in support of planning approval packages
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees and periodic participation and presentations at industry/professional conferences
Learning and Development:
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Qualifications
  • Registered, or eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT)
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s license
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Adobe Suites, Microsoft Office and database software
  • Completion of a 2 year post-secondary school diploma from a Community College in Urban and Regional Planning Technology or a related field (e.g. GIS and Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Applied Planning, etc.)
  • New graduate or soon-to-be graduate to two years’ experience, preferably in the consulting industry
Experience
  • Strong communication, writing, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with environmental assessment requirements and legislation, including the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, and Local planning processes
  • Knowledge of the development industry and the land development approval process, and municipal planning policy
  • Some experience with coordinating planning approvals and permits is an asset
  • Developing concept plans, detailed site plans, draft plans of subdivision and maps gained through experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and other software applications (AutoCAD, Adobe Pro, In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, ESRI ArcGIS, SketchUp, etc.)
  • Understanding of land use planning and development, sustainable community design, urban redevelopment, and planning policy
  • Experience with site plan approvals and plan of subdivision/condominium processes will be considered an asset
