Job Description

We are looking to hire a Payroll and Accounts Payable Clerk for our client's team in Cambridge. With strong values such as integrity and mutual respect, our client is a family-owned construction business with 40+ years of presence.


This is a full-time, contract role for 6 months. On-site, Mon- Fri.

$23/hr – $26/hr.


Responsibilities:

  • Accurately allocate purchase order numbers in Sage accounting software.
  • Record relevant work hours in client files to ensure accurate billing.
  • Verify attendance, hours worked, records of employee leave time, including vacation, personal, and sick leave, pay adjustments, collect timecards on a regular basis, and record the information in designated records.
  • Organize customer sheets for easy accessibility, file documents or records appropriately.
  • Review figures, postings, and documents to ensure accurate entry, mathematical precision, and proper coding by applying appropriate company procedures.
  • Calculate and prepare payment transactions.
  • Generate and distribute employee paychecks and statements reflecting earnings and deductions.
  • Perform wage and deduction calculations and input data into computer systems.
  • Gather employee time, production, and payroll data from time sheets and other relevant records.
  • Identify and report any discrepancies found in records through reconciliation or notation.
  • Utilize accounting software on computers to record, store, and analyze financial information.
  • Issue and document pay adjustments related to previous errors or retroactive increases.
  • Carry out general office duties such as filing, answering phone calls, and handling routine correspondence.
  • Process and handle payroll information including complete paperwork for new employees and inputting employee details into the payroll system.


Experience and Education:

  • WHMIS
  • Experience using SAGE50 will be an asset
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in Payroll and a minimum of 2 years in Accounts Payable.
  • Must have General Accounting knowledge
  • Highly proficient in Excel (Testing will be conducted if shortlisted for the first round)
