Job Summary
The main objective of the Collections Assistant position is to assist with conducting an artifact inventory of the Benares Storage. This requires physically checking each artifact in those areas, creating new bar code labels, taking photographs as needed and updating our Past Perfect data base. As well, 75-100 condition reports on random artifacts from the collection will be created and entered into our database. The final objective would be for the research and development of 15 (1 page) biographies of personalities from Mississauga's past to augment our database.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Collections Supervisor, the Summer Collections Assistant will:
  • Assist with research and development of 15 (1 page) biographies of personalities from Mississauga's past to augment our database.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work with a Past Perfect database, tasks will also include data entry, historical research, scanning and/or taking digital images and bar coding
  • Work as part of a team to complete an artifact and archival inventory of Benares Storage, as well as 75 condition reports
Skills And Qualifications
  • Student working towards or planning to pursue a museums degree with a background in museums studies,history, or anthropology
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian History would be an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with Mississauga history would be an asset
  • Level 2- Criminal or Judicial Matters Check (previously Regular CRS) will be required of the successfulcandidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record forwhich a pardon has not been granted.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Past Perfect would be an asset
  • Excellent data entry, research and computer skills
  • Must be a returning student 16-30 to meet YCW qualifications
Hourly Rate/Salary: 18.59 - 22.13
