Corporate Services – Communications


Status: 2 Contract Full Time – 13 Months


Salary Range: $53,110 to $66,389 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits, where applicable)


Work Mode: Onsite


Location: 9 Wellington Street East, Brampton


Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Peel Art Gallery, Museum, and Archives (PAMA) is the Region’s dynamic culture hub, housed in an inter-connected 4 building campus in downtown Brampton, serving a diverse population of 1.44 million across Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. PAMA is an integrated institution specializing in contemporary and regional arts, heritage and culture, with a mandate of creative exploration and a goal to help build cohesive community.


Working under the guidance of the Collections Specialist, Museum, you will provide support for the care and management of the PAMA Museum’s permanent collection. General duties include collections management activities, database management, artifact care and handling, artifact and environmental monitoring, research, and documentation.


You will also provide general support to the Museum team and other integrated PAMA teams, as required.


What You Will Do In This Role


  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Assists with scheduled storage inspections and monitoring of environmental conditions
  • Design and/or fabricate custom artifact mounts, housings, and other supports based on museum best practices, as required
  • Assists with performing collections management tasks including project-related research, collections inventory and tracking, artifact labelling, performing condition assessments, and updating the collections database
  • Works collaboratively as part of a team to rehouse artifacts, including unpacking and re-locating artifacts for permanent storage according to artifact preservation and collections management best practices
  • Performs artifact safe handling and movement of collections
  • Reports work progress to the Collections Specialist, Museum


What The Role Requires


  • Proven understanding of museum preventative conservation methods and best practices
  • University degree in history, archaeology, or related subject plus knowledge of collections management best practices. Completion of a Collections Conservation, Collections Management or Museum Studies-related program at the community college or university level
  • Demonstrated experience with collections management database systems
  • Ability to lift and carry objects and tools up to 30 pounds
  • Preferred at least 2 years job related experience, or a Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft applications
