Duties And Responsibilities


Durham College is seeking a Mental Health Services Manager to join the Campus Health and Wellness Centre that supports both Durham College and OntarioTech University. Reporting to and in collaboration with the Director, the Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC), the Mental Health Services Manager helps develop and implement the strategic direction of the mental health services and plays a key role in contributing to the development and maintenance of a healthy campus community at Durham College.


The incumbent manages the day-to-day operations of the mental health practitioners in the CHWC while maintaining a caseload of students with the most complex mental health needs.


The manager is responsible for the recruitment, training and performance management of the mental health practitioners working with the director to make decisions affecting the budget efficiently utilizing the human and financial resources available to meet the needs of the students. The manager schedules the Mental Health team and ensures the larger CHWC multidisciplinary team is empowered to execute their work.


The manager is responsible for ensuring the effective and useful collection, analysis and implementation of new programs or initiatives to address the complex mental health needs and continuously improve the services provided to students with a trauma informed lens and anti-oppressive framework.


The manager will ensure the team communicates effectively and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and ensure there is strategic alignment between this team’s work and the Durham College strategic plan, business plan and the mental health framework embraced by the campus. Seeking out and providing opportunities for professional development, the manager will explore new ideas for strategic service development of mental health-focused resources and services including stepped-care service delivery, equity-informed practice and remote/on-line resources and services.


The manager will assess the campus community’s mental health education and awareness needs and will seek out education and training opportunities for faculty, staff and students across the campus in collaboration with Human Resources to strengthen and increase the capacity of all to recognize, respond and refer anyone with mental health struggles.


Qualifications


  • ASIST Suicide Prevention Training required.
  • Previous experience in attendance, sick and vacation allocation/record management in a unionized work environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience supporting complex mental health needs.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a formal leadership/management position.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience utilizing Electronic Medical Records and capable of adapting to new software as needed (Microsoft, EMR, Jane, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of existing landscape/mental health and wellness needs of post-secondary students is required, experience working in higher education setting is an asset.
  • Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, program development and evaluation processes and continuous quality improvement techniques
  • Current theoretical, professional, and practical developments in various therapies, counselling interventions and crisis counselling.
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or another related health field.
  • Must be qualified and in good standing with a college or professional association.
  • Working knowledge of performance management and conflict resolution techniques and processes.

Salary Range: $87,433 - $109,292
