Addiction and Mental Health Worker, Holly’s House


1 Full-Time and 2 Part-time positions; Contracts (End date: March 31, 2024)

Holly’s House supports a vibrant community of women who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, to set and achieve their housing goals, promoting a welcoming and non-judgmental culture and providing a reprieve from the stigma women so often feel in other community settings. Our team supports women through short-term transitional housing supports, interventions and services that are consistent with a trauma and violence informed, gender specific, harm reduction and psychosocial model of care.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 3 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.


WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:
  • Internal staff members will be placed on the appropriate grid based on their current rate of pay, up to Level 8 of the grid (see Intranet Policy -
  • What you'll be making - What you'll be making - $22.33 to $25.71 per hour (Practicing Professional Grid)
  • The above are initial rates; with grid increases as per policy

Full-time Position (1 available): 70 hours bi-weekly, rotating schedule of day, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts


Part-time Positions (2 available): 43 hours bi-weekly, rotating schedule of day, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts


  • Your pension plan – Will be eligible for optional enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).

However, please be aware that at the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. Until such time as a new collective agreement is finalized, current terms and conditions of employment and existing, applicable collective agreements, if any, will remain in force and effect.


HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:


  • Provide mental health, trauma, addictions and harm reduction supports
  • Motivate and support client to work towards achievement of their needs/goals
  • Provide triage, initial screening and assessment, information and referrals
  • Participate as part of a dynamic team of support and advocacy providers
  • Support landlords as necessary in conjunction with the individual, provision of landlord mediation where appropriate
  • Identify areas or trends of concern as they emerge with this population
  • Advocate, refer and connect clients with appropriate housing services, supports, and resources (formal and informal) based on their needs
  • Provide safety planning to reduce risk and harm
  • Engage with women who experience barriers to access and develop relationships of trust
  • Engage with donors, supporters and the public in a professional manner
  • Provide basic needs, as required, following internal procedures
  • Support clients to secure housing of their choice
  • Champion client’s individual capacity for independent community living
  • Provide a welcoming, safe, and trusting environment for vulnerable women
  • Connect and liaise with appropriate community partners and resources
  • Protect and promote the welfare, dignity, and individual rights of women at all times
  • Liaise with partner agencies to develop continuous improvement in quality of service to women
  • Foster growth of capacities and community leadership amongst the women
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and statistical gathering as required
  • Provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution and negotiation skills as necessary
  • Assist clients to successfully remain in their housing, providing prevention and diversion strategies to avoid homelessness
  • Employ a community development and strengths-based approach


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

We require the following qualifications:


  • Demonstrated ability to work with women who live with multiple challenges related to marginalization, mental illness, substance use, complex health challenges, street-level sex work, poverty, homelessness, woman abuse and trauma
  • Completed and/or ongoing post-secondary education in social services, mental health and/or addictions (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Knowledge of, and excellent relationships with community resources and community partners
  • Experience using harm reduction, feminist, relational/cultural and recovery theories
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly


We prefer the following qualifications:


  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
  • Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in mental health, preferred
  • First Aid & CPR, ASIST, and CPI certifications
