Relief Addiction and Mental Health Worker - Youth Housing


Casual shifts

Our Independent and Youth Housing programs embody this ideal by providing stable, independent housing, with regular supports, for individuals experiencing mental health or addictions concerns. As a member of this team, you’ll work with residents to build life skills, grow their personal strengths and ultimately, achieve greater wellness and independence.


Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:


  • Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • PSLRTA Notice - This posting characterizes this position as currently non-union. However, please be aware that at the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. The result was that employees voted to award OPSEU bargaining rights for all employees. Until such time as a new collective agreement is finalized, current terms and conditions of employment and existing, applicable collective agreements, if any, will remain in force and effect.
  • What you'll be making - $22.33
  • When you'll work -Relief shifts will include days, afternoons, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays. Relief staff have flexibility to accept shifts that suit their schedules up to a maximum of 44 hours per week, but will commit to accepting a minimum of four shifts per month.


HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:


  • Ensure effective communication with Director, Managers, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning each participant’s progress
  • Make decisions both independently and collaboratively
  • Work with clients and help motivate/support them to work towards achievement of their goals
  • Identify, promote resolution, and management of all emergency situations concerning participants, staff, and property
  • Advocate for and support clients in accessing community resources
  • Assist and coach clients in the learning and management/achievement of activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, daily chores, budgeting, socialization etc.
  • Champion each client’s capacity for independent community living
  • Facilitate and implement resident meetings
  • Assist clients to maintain suitable housing
  • Crisis intervention and prevention
  • Provide health teaching about addiction, mental illness and symptom management
  • Documentation related to clients


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:


Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements


Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. We require the following qualifications:


  • Current Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle
  • Experience working in the addiction and mental health field
  • Current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Ability to attend work regularly
  • Post secondary education in social science, or a related field (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)


We prefer the following qualifications:


  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation
  • Experience working with youth
  • Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
  • Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training (ASIST)
  • Crisis intervention and prevention
  • Health and safety knowledge; knowledge of safe food handling procedures
