Join our team at the California State University, Office of the Chancellor, and make a difference in providing access to higher education. We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Marketing Manager. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 14 paid holidays a year.


Salary


The salary range for this classification is $3,750 to $11,146 per month.


The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $6,250 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position Information


The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Marketing Manager to act as the brand and client business focused champion, providing strategic input (and Strategic LEAD at times), tactical planning, and direction on assigned parts of CSU/CO related business. The MM in essence becomes the marketing point person on assigned pieces of business that advances the CSU’s mission and brand and accomplishes desired business objectives. They ensure strategic sensibilities and keep an eye on focused objectives and target audiences. The MM builds and maintains positive, lasting client relationships, thereby becoming more knowledgeable about that business and how efforts are adjusted/addressed in various outlets regardless of medium including but not limited to web, digital, print, broadcast, social, and promotional items. This position serves as the primary point of contact for clients, raising awareness when changes in scope impact budget and timing. The Marketing Manager should be able to assist with shepherding changes from one project out to other projects that may be impacted, having a broad overview of the CSU brand. The position collaborates with the marketing project management team to develop and implement plans in a timely, effective, and efficient manner. The MM will support the established processes within the production team to be successful in serving the brand. This role should be able to independently solve client issues and moderate conflict while knowing when to bring in management support. The Marketing Manager reports to the Director of Collaborative Services & Operations.


Responsibilities


This position is long-term temporary with benefits.


Under the general direction of the Director, Collaborative Services and Operations, the Marketing Manager will:


  • Conducts necessary research to ensure informed strategies and work being developed and executed.
  • Cultivate and foster solid relationships with clients and internal team
  • Serves as content and business expert on assigned pieces of business
  • Reviews job/project scope of work, specifications, quotes and at times solicits cost estimates.
  • Manages partner/client expectations
  • Partner with client to develop strategic and tactical plans
  • Ensures quality control
  • Works closely with internal teams (web, digital, social, creative, production) to develop strategically sound work, on time and on budget.
  • Champions, supports, leverages the CSU brand. Supports CSU’s mission, strategic plan, initiatives, brand and content strategies to partners and others.
  • Own and drive client-facing meetings including project review
  • Ensures creative output is on strategy, on message and exceeds client’s expectations
  • Participates in project initiative debriefs.
  • Develop various strategies and approaches to solving business needs (mindful of brand positioning/reinforcement)
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Helps to recognize budgets and help to execute within
  • Partner with client to develop strategic and thoughtful effective marketing plans
  • Identify key opportunities to help achieve marketing goals
  • Advances the CSU’s mission through the projects created in the Marketing Communications Department.
  • Develop, write and/or review various standardized marketing briefs, ensuring they are actionable and clear. Candidates may be required to submit examples.
  • Outlines KPI's and monitors work in market (and or assigns and gathers input from client/partner)
  • Utilizes and supports depts tools, software for workflow and processes.
  • Acts as brand champion, ensuring focus on strategy and positioning for each project
  • Support established schedules/timelines (recognize key milestones)


Qualifications


This position requires:


  • Process minded approach and understands the importance of collaboration and efficient workflow methodologies.
  • Superior communication skills including the ability to articulate and advance ideas with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong experience in developing actionable briefs, writing proposals and a thorough knowledge of the English language, composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to possess credibility in the presence of the client.
  • An expert understanding of Microsoft Office programs and the importance of project management software is a must.
  • Ability to routinely demonstrate a thorough understanding of the CSU, its mission, vision, strategic plan, initiatives, and current and future challenges that will influence the brand and use that understanding to advance the CSU through Marketing Communications Department projects.
  • Experience and understanding of brand building, branding, and working within brand platforms, graphic identity systems, and how they translate into effective messaging and marketing efforts.
  • Ability to collaborate well with internal staff, sub-departments, senior leadership, clients, and vendors.
  • PC and Mac proficiency required.
  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic recommendations and decisions based on data and other sources of feedback. Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Detail oriented, and good proofreading skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to develop valued relationships with all levels of clients based on a broad knowledge of marketing principles and insights. Solid customer service skills are required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a comparable combination of education and related experience. 3-5 years in an advertising/marketing related agency or inhouse set up agency style is a must. Candidate must be strategic minded and goal oriented, understand philosophy of target audiences and ways to effectively engage with desired outcomes.
  • The ability to multi-task and handle several components of multiple projects and initiatives. in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-driven environment with a proactive approach to work, duties, and tasks.
