The Pet Care business unit of Spectrum Brands is based in St. Louis, Missouri with distribution, manufacturing and sales offices throughout the US and globe. Job Summary


The Marketing Manager reports to the Sr. Marketing Director and is responsible for the execution of key goals of marketing initiatives through-out the calendar year. This position manages multiple aspects of brand and channel marketing as needed including working with cross-functional teams (Marketing Leadership Team, Product Management, US Brand and Creative team, Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain), vendors, and outside agency partners. The Marketing Manager will be responsible for the Aquatics (Nutrition & Hardgoods), and Care & Clean-Up portfolio (Stain and Odour & Grooming).


Primary Duties & Responsibilities


Product development and Lifecycle Management (55% of time)


  • Lead the development and implementation of new products while collaborating with the PMO team to ensure successful development and execution of product launches from concept through launch.
  • Lead the new product launch and in market execution (full P&L) with sales kits and Master Decks / Line Reviews
  • Manage Category SKU Listing, product and brand lifecycle and execute annual SKU rationalization effort.
  • Lead the innovation road map process to drive revenues and profitability for their categories. Apply disciplined methodology of product development including ideation and testing to deliver consumer and category relevant innovation that grows the business.
  • Establish guidelines for timelines and follow-up through project completion. Generate and evaluate new product concepts and product changes, working in collaboration with the cross functional team (Sales, NPD, Graphics, R&D, Regulatory, Legal/IP, Packaging, Supply Chain, Sourcing and Finance).
  • Set development priorities and create the Gate Forms for NPDs.


Trade Marketing / Sales support (25% of time)
  • Serve as the regional expert to develop and execute new product commercialization initiatives, including the development of literature, customer-ready presentations, web content for new product launches, sales training, presentations, sales tools, competitive analysis.
  • Plan and coordinate events and national trade shows.
  • Support the sales team by optimizing sales through marketing tools (customer presentations, sell sheets, ads and other print & online commercialization materials as directed) and supporting Trade Marketing and promotional activities e.g. supporting the creation and set-up for off-shelf display, end-caps and events.
  • Perform basic administrative tasks including management of marketing budgets, sample and merchandising requests from internal and external partners.


Brand Management & Communication and digital (20% of time)
  • Leverage consumer insights; analyze market and competitive trends and develop relevant market research to provide insights that drive growth and identify business opportunities and gaps with the Insights Team.
  • Facilitates the development and execution of the 3-year marketing roadmap plans and annual marketing plans including, but not limited to, consumer promotions, social media, public relations, trade and consumer shows.
  • Support the Global Pet Care division in the digital space including, brand and customer website support & development, annual Communication and Digital annual plans, social media platforms, working closely with the DCX Team.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Global US marketing teams and the Canadian region
  • Reinforce a proactive, goal-oriented, entrepreneurial environment while ensuring that appropriate processes and disciplines are in place.
Education and Experience Profile
  • Bilingual French English Preferred
  • Minimum 4 years marketing experience in a consumer goods environment; time in sales role an additional benefit
  • Specific examples of superior presentation skills and comfort with a variety of audiences both internal and customer facing Advanced interpersonal talents, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Specific examples of strong financial acumen, including prior P&L ownership
  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing
  • Specific examples of strategic thinking and planning capability
  • Specific examples of project management experience
