Your role
As a Manager on our team, you will provide a high degree of specialized financial support to Technology and Infrastructure Services (T&I) Directors in the areas of Accounting, Budgeting and Financial Planning and Analysis, primarily related to Real Estate and Property Asset Management. This includes conducting detailed and complex analysis and research of financial information and other non-financial data to support those activities. You will liaise with Finance as well as Operations staff in order to gather information to support the financial results. You will participate in the month end close process and also conduct analysis to ensure adherence to accounting policies, practices, internal controls, identify deviations and make recommendations for changes.
You will conduct detailed and complex analysis of financial and non-financial data to support:
  • Continuously evaluates the financial processes within T&I, identifies and implements process improvements in financial processes to obtain efficiencies, resolves budgetary problems and identifies areas for team development.
  • Builds consensus and makes recommendations to Department Directors and Senior Directors on budgets, forecasts and changes in financial controls.
  • Provides analysis and guidance to Department Directors on all financial aspects of the BGIS contract and validates BGIS financial forecasts.
  • Provides leadership during the preparation of the annual business plan, with an understanding of the changing departmental strategy, budgetary needs, identifying budgetary challenges and providing recommendations to senior management.
  • Acts as a resource to the Capital Finance team and Governmental Relations team to ensure that the financial analysis is robust, can withstand reasonable challenge, and where applicable meets the requirements of the Treasury Board of Canada.
  • Plans, assigns and manages the work of direct reports (3.5).
  • Leads the financial component of special and complex projects, including, but not limited to capital projects. Creates detailed financial models to analyze the feasibility of potential Real Estate transactions according to the hypotheses proposed by the Real Estate Transaction team. The analysis evaluates the net present value, payback period for each potential investment decision.
  • Provides the Finance co-sign on Real Estate and Transmission contracts.
  • Works closely with procurement during RFP processes to provide the financial analysis for the financial assessment component of the evaluation.
We Are Looking For a Candidate With The Following
  • The incumbent has 6+ years of prior experience in financial management and has a mastery of financial analysis, and budget analysis.
  • University graduate in Business Administration, Finance or Commerce and a recognized accounting designation such as CPA.
  • In-depth knowledge of spreadsheets software, and experience in financial modeling.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and their application, combined with an ability to perform rigorous, in-depth analyses.
