Job Description

Customer Service Professionals Network (CSPN) - Toronto, ON

Job Title: Manager of Learning; Instructional Design Manager

Position: Full-Time

Location: Virtual / Toronto, ON, Canada

ABOUT CSPN

CSPN is a boutique professional services organization that helps our clients to accomplish two tasks: 1) Create happier customers and 2) Create happier employees. To achieve the second, we help design and deliver highly engaging adult learning. Our courses are dynamic and hyper-relevant to employees for their specific jobs. Our aim is not to churn out PowerPoint slides or track the attendance of learners. Instead, we seek to create remarkable learning experiences that change how people think, behave, and work.

We create training for organizations passionate about improving the employee experience.

Role Description:

Serve as the strategic manager of learning services that is responsible for the design and development of a range of adult learning courses across multiple channels. Your work starts with understanding what knowledge or skill gaps our clients are looking to close through instructor-led or digital learning courses. Leveraging your skills in instructional design and CSPN’s team of in-house and contract instructional designers you will work with the team to build, customize and deploy learning experiences – ILT and VILT courses, eLearnings, job aids, videos, pod casts, micro learning.

You love to:

  • Think creatively and pragmatically
  • Inspire the best work out of those who report to you.
  • Work independently and in a team.
  • Design and build courses for adult learners.
  • Lead projects and teams to deliver ahead of schedule.
  • Stay organized.

Your day consists of:

  • Team Leader where you coach and support those who report to you.
  • Instructional Design where you role-up your sleeves and develop learning experiences.
  • Client Ambassador where you work with the account team to ensure the client loves the final product.
  • Project Management to ensure our teams are tracking to get their work done
  • Sales Support where you are not responsible for generating new business (although that would be great if you could!), but you do support our new business development processes.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Planning and Analysis

  • Create curriculum roadmaps and menus, and recommend the optimal blend and supporting rationale.
  • Apply analytical and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding and proven application of adult learning principles.
  • "Design a curriculum" based on relevant collated data and identify which methodologies would be used to deliver curated content and zero-in on existing and emerging technology.
  • Leverage effective needs analysis, project management, course development and evaluation skills.

2.Design andStructure

  • Knowledge of training and organizational development theories, adult learning principles and instructional design models such as ADDIE.
  • Your primary focusis the organization of content. Your job is to ensure the flow of information is sequential and smooth without losing context. You create learning experiences that move complex, simple, or elaborate concepts in an uncluttered manner that caters effectively to a wide variety of learners.
  • Effectively communicate both visually and verbally and possess the ability to create measurable objectives based on the audience’s needs.
  • Create effective and appealing courses to the fluidity and structure of the content to ensure that learners remain engaged and courses see a minimal attrition rate.

3.Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)

  • Brainstorm in context of aesthetics (size, font, design, and experience), placement, frequency of use of tools, content format and more, to ensure learners are not overwhelmed by the experience of infographics, mini-videos, graphs, links to sources, PDFextracts etc.
  • Champion a collaborative approach, offer multiple options and alternatives to design challenges.
  • Work alongside CSPN external SMEs to select the best scalable solution and technology tools for each initiative.
  • Collaborate with the respective Subject Matter Expert (SME) to not only curate the most relevant content to include in the course, but to devise modes of assessment and interactions (tests, quizzes etc.) to ensure optimum efficacy of the eLearning course.

4.Implementation and Testing

  • Maintain results and customer focus at all time, collaborating with team members and Manager to ensure outcomes are on track to meet business needs
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods.

5. Project and Team Management

  • Create and adhere to a project plan.
  • Supervise and coach junior instructional designers.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure any development related issues and discussed and resolved.
  • Escalate any client-related issues with CSPN leadership and Account Coordinators.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Collaboration skills including the ability to integrate and act upon the diverse perspectives of Learning Managers, SMEs and external vendors.
  • Intermediate to Advanced eLearning development skills.
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) preferred.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Exceptional project management skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research, analyze and synthesize it.
  • Ability to storyboard.
  • Open to feedback and evaluation as well as flexibility to improve material and the overall learning experience for the audience.
  • Ability to address multiple deadlines and balance multiple needs and perspectives in a professional manner.
  • Team leadership abilities.

Relevant Qualifications:
