Location: Remote with some travel to remote Vancouver Island locations
Status:Full-time, Contract or Employee
Salary:$80,000 - $95,000 per annum

Hayu Fishing Limited Partnership is a dynamic Aboriginal owned commercial fisheries enterprise focused on the strategic acquisition and management of fisheries licenses and quotas to support First Nation fishers and shareholder communities.
We work closely with fishers and other stakeholders to foster mutually beneficial partnerships that will protect and increase Aboriginal participation in the commercial fishing industry and provide long-term revenue generation for Hayu.We are committed to strengthening the economic viability of our beautiful remote coastal communities by encouraging fisheries and marine related projects supportive of environmental sustainability and stewardship.

You are dedicated to fostering sustainable fishing practices, promoting marine conservation, and supporting the economic viability of First Nation fishers and communities. You are financially savvy professional who can think critically, work independently and forge strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including First Nations and Government organizations.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Managing Director and Board, as manager, you will be responsible for the administration of Hayu’s fisheries resource portfolio and general management of our organization, including financial management, business planning and program management.
What you will do:
Fisheries Management:
·Manage a portfolio of commercial and commercial-communal fisheries licenses and quota.
·Review Fisheries Management Plans and remain current on DFO regulations and industry developments, including market trends & research findings.
·Maintain a fisheries management database.
·Liaison with relevant strategic associations, fisheries committees, and industry partners
·Optimize resource allocation to maximize First Nation fisheries opportunities and company profitability, while ensuring the integrity of the fisheries program from a technical & political perspective.
·Ensure compliance with DFO & TOC regulations.
·Assist fishers from the Shareholder communities with training, marine surveys, resource harvest opportunities, business planning, and industry advisement.
·Review and maintain contracts with fishers and other parties as required.
·Coordinate marine training programs for members, including Transport Canada required certification.
Financial Management:
·Develop and maintain an annual budget, considering financial objectives and organizational priorities.
·Ensure financial data integrity and asset management.
·Prepare and present quarterly financial statements to the board.
·Provide cost-benefit analysis for investments and operational changes.
·Utilize analytical skills to assess variations in revenue streams and identify areas for improvement or potential risks.
·Analyse investments in fisheries resources and develop a strategy to purchase resources in collaboration with the Fisheries and Oceans, Pacific Integrated Fisheries Initiative (PICFI) funding program.
·Collaborate with the auditor to ensure compliance with financial regulation and best practices, and provide the information required for the audit.
Business Planning:
·Lead the development and execution of comprehensive fisheries & business plans, including resource allocation and project timelines.
·Periodically revise the Business Plan in coordination with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of objectives and effective implementation of initiatives.
·Identify potential risks and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies.
·Offer industry-specific advice to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.
·Liaison with the Managing Director on policies and procedures.
·Provide updates to the Board of Directors and seek direction on proposed policy changes.
·Develop an annual Shareholder Report and presentation.
Program Management:
·Complete businesses cases and funding applications as required.
·Ensure all deliverables and reporting requirements are completed on time for all contribution and funding agreements.
·Identify and assess additional funding opportunities via a cost-benefit analysis and capacity requirements.
·Apply for funding opportunities that align with Hayu’s strategic direction.
What you Bring:
·Relevant bachelor’s degree or higher and/or proven combination of relevant experience & education.
·Minimum of 5 plus year’s experience in a similar capacity with a government agency, Indigenous organization, seafood industry or related organization.
·Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills to build & maintain strong working relationships both internally & externally cross-culturally.
·Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, government agencies, and community organizations.
·Experience working with First Nation Governments, organizations, and communities.
·Knowledge of fisheries regulations and administrative procedures.
·Understanding of fisheries issues, policies and legislation affecting BC First Nations with ability to interpret and provide strategic direction with respect to federal and provincial initiatives.
·Ability to analyze financial data, provide strategic recommendations, develop, and implement comprehensive financial and operational plans.
·Experience with developing funding proposals, managing agreements and budgets and reporting effectively to funders.
·Able to work independently to proactively address challenges and advantage opportunities.
·Experience in writing reports, policies, and conducting presentations.
·Willingness to travel to remote Vancouver Island First Nation communities.
·Acceptable Police information Check.
