Marine Fishing Gear Technician Jobs

Location: Remote with some travel to remote Vancouver Island locations

Strong communication and proven teamwork skills

Trawl Boat experience is an asset but not required

Have a valid Canadian passport / PR / Open Work Permit

A diploma or degree in an Engineering and/or Technical discipline in Electrical/Electronics or a combination of equivalent education, training, and/or experience.

Knowledge of networking principles and IT skills.

Strong verbal communication and written reporting skills in English language.

Experience, troubleshooting complex marine electronic systems to a PCB level.

Excellent written and verbal skills.

Knowledge of Marine Navigation Systems including radar, gyrocompass, autopilot, VDR & GMDSS systems.

Participates in emergency drills in accordance with Transport Canada regulations, the Safety Management System

Reports non-conformities to the Designated Person (Manager of Fleet Operations)

Minimum four (4) years of relevant maintenance and repair experience

Minimum four (4) years of experience in the marine environment

Demonstrated knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

Candidates, who, in addition to the above, possess specialized skills such as fitting, welding, equipment operating, will be given strong consideration

Annual base salary range is between $50,000 and $60,000 CAD, commensurate with technician’s experience and capabilities.

Use their knowledge of electronic theory and circuitry to address a variety of technical problems.

Computer networking knowledge (Ethernet, serial communications protocols).

Knowledge of marine navigation equipment including but not limited to radars, gyrocompasses, autopilots, ECDIS, GMDSS, etc.

Strong knowledge of electronics theory and application.

Fluent in English (spoken & written). Working knowledge of the French language is a plus.

Strong attention to detail and time management

Completion of Marine Engine Mechanics course and apprenticeship OR other relevant combination of experience and training

Wide range of job related skills such as welding, electrical and more

Knowledge of marine and/or automotive parts

Proven prioritization and organization skills

Repair, maintenance and service of marine equipment, boat motors and more

Knowledge of marine diesels and competent systems

Liaise with Base Head Tech & Base Manager day to day prioritizing work in efficient manner

Minimum 1 years’ experience in boat maintenance required

Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build internal relationships and deliver exceptional service to customers
