Manager, Fleet Engineering [Remote]

Scope of Position

Leads a multidisciplinary engineer ing team that works directly with the Asset Managers, Operations and Maintenance personnel, Project Managers and fellow Performance and Reliability Engineering team members to identify , quantify, investigate, report on and correct the root causes of sub-optimal fleet performance and reliability .

Responsibilities

• Technical Analysis and Review
• Monitor and report on effectiveness of fielded corrective actions and performance improvement efforts.
• Lead the Fleet Engineering team in conducting Root Cause Analyses to determine primary reasons for lost production and/or increased operating expenses affecting renewable energy assets.
• Lead the Fleet Engineering team in developing engineering solutions to correct the causes of lost production and/or increased operating expense affecting renewable energy assets.
• Responsible for tracking, managing, advising and reporting on technical aspects of warranty claims across all renewable energy assets.

• Conduct engineering reviews and approvals for all technical changes inclusive of changes to documents, software, firmware, hardware, etc.
• Responsible for overseeing the Fleet Engineering team’s collection and maintenance of configuration database inclusive of make, model and serial numbers for all major components on assigned assets.
• Chair periodic meetings with Field Engineers, Asset Managers and site technicians to coordinate performance and reliability improvement efforts.
• Lead the Fleet Engineering team in providing technical assistance on warranty claims processes.
• Participate in meetings at Construction to COD handoff to ensure that Project Management’s technical deliverables are met.

• Create, edit and maintain technical requirement and specification documents as needed.

• Develop and implement strategic growth plan for Fleet Engineering team to continuously improve competence and capabilities to support future needs of the operations team.
• Staff Development and Process Improvement
• Recruit, retain , and develop personnel on the fleet engineering team to provide engineering support to operations team within scope of wind turbine systems and mechanical components.

• Responsible for creating and adherence to Fleet Engineering annual budget, project schedules and resource planning.
• Other duties as assigned
• Lead initiatives to continuously improve productivity and effectiveness of engineering team and cross-functional collaboration.

Supervision of Others –

3 to 8 direct reports

F iscal Responsibilities –

Budget responsibility in conjunction with the coordination and justification of external resources to support innovative and competitive engineering efforts.

Qualifications

Education/Experience –

• R equires m inimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Systems Engineering or similar
• Requires minimum of five or more years’ experience in utility scale wind operations

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities –

• Demonstrated experience developing component or repair specifications and working with suppliers to qualify mechanical components for purchase or repair.
• Preference for experience with OSI PI, SAP, JMP, ReliaSoft Weibull++/ BlockSim , Tableau and SQL
• Ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) .
• D emonstrated skills in querying, compiling and analyzing disparate data sources
• Dem onstrated experience leading Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action problem solving for mechanical components.
• Working knowledge of Life Data Analysis calculations and analysis
• Ability to present and effectively communicate technical topics to both a technical and non-technical audience .
• Ability to work independently and with a team to develop innovative solutions to technical problems.
• Demonstrated experience defining experiments to verify root causes and corrective actions of mechanical components.

Physical Requirements –

Ability to climb ladders and work at heights >80 meters.

Working Conditions –

85 % of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 15 % of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings .

Pay Range: $112,500 - $187,500 Annually
