POSITION: Maintenance Planner


REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager, Motor Coach Fleet


DEPARTMENT: Motor Coach Services


LOCATION: North Bay

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:


The Maintenance Planner ensures that asset maintenance needs are translated into plans and carried out in an effective manner. The Planner will scope and define tasks that are carried out through work orders, providing details such as work breakdowns and activities, priority, required parts or materials, and specific trades required.


MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Review and make decisions on changes to maintenance strategies and regimes, e.g., Preventative Maintenance
  • Identify and plan the parts required for work orders
  • Process work orders to ‘waiting to be scheduled’ status and ‘scheduled’ status as needed
  • Ensure maintenance plans are established and entered in the EAM system for newly acquired assets
  • Monitor asset performance to ensure maintenance plans and activities support the required asset levels of service
  • Establish and maintain standard activities and checklists in the EAM system
  • Carry out scheduling activities, depending the level of scheduling support in the business unit
  • Build and maintain a high level of competency with the EAM system in key modules including asset management, work management, parts and inventory, and other relevant maintenance modules
  • Participate in Management review activities led by the Asset Manager, and address needs related to staffing, process gaps, data gaps, funding, etc.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming pre-planned work and ensure work orders are generated, processed, and scheduled
  • Oversee the translation of asset maintenance needs into plans, ensuring appropriate maintenance strategies are in place to meet department service levels
  • Assess asset performance, and enact maintenance strategy changes to close gaps
  • Participate in the development and update of Asset Management Plans and Capital Plan submissions when requested
  • Establish and set up Preventative Maintenance Plans in the EAM system, including but not limited to time based maintenance plans, failure finding and condition-based maintenance, predictive, etc.
  • Identify and raise asset maintenance data gaps and take actions to resolve them (e.g. errors with an inspection checklist item)
  • Lead the Identification, development, and updates to asset performance measures and conducts any asset management benchmarking activities
  • Gather input and feedback from Supervisors on maintenance and work order progress in order to update plans
  • Support business cases and funding requests where required
  • Lead the implementation and communication of new maintenance strategies or changes
  • Initiate maintenance reviews and work with the Asset Manager to carry out necessary changes to maintenance regimes to close gaps
  • Review work orders that are designated for ‘planning’ requiring job planning details such as labour, parts required, activities, etc.
  • Raise issues and support decisions related to deferred maintenance or management of maintenance backlogs
  • Support asset investment planning and forecasting by providing inputs on maintenance strategies
  • Coordinate with Supervisors to ensure the right information has been captured when Emergency work orders have taken place


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
  • Solid foundation of knowledge in asset management principals, including the role of maintenance and work management as part
  • Committed to Company Health & Safety
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence front line, technical staff and translate changes in maintenance to the front-line staff
  • Strong background in reliability and integrity concepts including Reliability Centered Maintenance
  • College diploma, degree or trades certification in mechanical and/or maintenance field preferred
  • Experience with maintenance management tasks, including continuous improvement of maintenance practices, asset performance monitoring, and establishment of maintenance strategies
  • 5+ years in a facilities management, industrial shop maintenance, or operations environment with direct involvement in the maintenance practices or experience
  • Extensive experience with EAM or CMMS Systems including Preventative Maintenance set up, job scoping and planning, and job scheduling
